Accounting Services Director

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants anywhere in the world.

📋 Description

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accountants and bookkeepers while also assisting in the hiring process.

• Evaluate work before it is presented to CFOs or clients, ensuring adherence to quality standards.

• Organize portfolio capacity and guarantee that deadlines are met.

• Conduct the accounting team’s weekly meetings, remove obstacles, and resolve recurring issues.

• Manage the month-end closing process for all clients, ensuring accurate completion within two to ten business days.

• Approve closing files, reconciliations, and working papers.

• Establish and uphold standards for fixed assets, loans, prepaids, accruals, and deferred revenue.

• Lead variance analysis across platforms such as Shopify, Amazon, wholesale, and various expense categories.

• Collaborate with tax accountants and CPA firms to coordinate year-end activities.

• Draft and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), checklists, and closing calendars.

• Standardize charts of accounts, working paper templates, flash reports, and monthly reporting packages.

• Identify and implement automation and AI enhancements in collaboration with the AI team.

• Address complex issues related to leases, equity, intercompany transactions, multi-entity operations, multi-currency concerns, inventory, cost of goods sold (COGS), sales tax, VAT, and nexus.

• Serve as the primary accounting contact for clients and CFOs.

• Participate in client calls, elucidate complex matters, and follow up with notes and action items.

• Identify potential risks and proactively communicate any delays or errors.

• Collaborate closely with fractional CFOs to facilitate informed business decisions.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 7 years of experience in accounting.

• At least 3 years of experience leading a team of accountants or bookkeepers and reviewing their work.

• Experience managing multiple clients in public practice, outsourced accounting, client accounting services, or a controller role across various entities.

• Extensive technical accounting knowledge, including accrual-basis accounting, leases, equity transactions, deferred revenue, and foreign exchange revaluation.

• Proficient in Xero and QuickBooks Online.

• Experience in ecommerce accounting, particularly with Shopify, Amazon Seller or Vendor Central, and multi-currency transactions.

• Proven ability to develop processes and SOPs that are effectively followed by others.

• Fluent in business English, both written and spoken.

• Comfortable appearing on camera for client interactions.

• Capable of coaching and demonstrating empathy.

• Ability to work from anywhere globally, with adequate overlap with North American business hours.

• CPA, CA or ACCA certification is preferred but not mandatory.

• Experience in audit, quality of earnings, or due diligence is also a plus.

• Familiarity with tools such as NetSuite, A2X, Dext, Hubdoc, Bill.com, Rippling, or Gusto is advantageous.
