Grassroots Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maine, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Design and implement a thorough grassroots advocacy initiative throughout Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.

• Recruit, nurture, sustain, and engage volunteer leaders.

• Create and execute grassroots strategies and campaign plans targeting local, state, and federal legislative priorities.

• Assist volunteers in reaching their fundraising objectives.

• Collaborate with the state Government Relations Director to develop local and state grassroots strategies and advocacy campaigns.

• Support federal campaigns and the cultivation of congressional champions.

• Organize volunteers for federal initiatives in partnership with national teams.

• Compose and distribute volunteer emails, legislative alerts, issue talking points, and training materials.

• Organize and oversee Cancer Action lobby days and similar virtual or in-person events.

• Manage ACS CAN webpages, Facebook pages, and other social media platforms.

• Identify and cultivate volunteers with personal narratives related to policy campaigns.

• Oversee the volunteer structure and address vacancies in the designated areas.

• Apply Direct-Action Organizing principles to state legislative campaigns.

• Coordinate efforts with grassroots and patient coalition partners as well as regional and national teams.

• Represent ACS CAN and its mission in alignment with organizational branding standards.

• Establish and nurture strategic collaborations and partnerships.

• Lead electoral activities through Cancer Votes while complying with IRS and ACS CAN legal and reporting standards.

• Attract, train, develop, communicate with, and recognize volunteers.

• Maintain connections with both grasstops and grassroots volunteers.

• Facilitate volunteer advocacy and foster relationships with elected officials and their staff.

• Provide training for volunteers and ACS staff.

• Keep volunteer data in databases such as Salesforce.

• Promote volunteer fundraising and support volunteer-led events, Lights of Hope, policy forums, and other fundraising initiatives.

• Travel within assigned states for legislative campaigns, strategic meetings, and stakeholder engagement, involving up to 20% travel, including overnight stays and occasional weekend travel.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and a minimum of three years of relevant experience.

• Experience in political issues or campaign organizing is highly preferred.

• Preferred experience in attracting, developing, and engaging volunteers.

• Fundraising experience is advantageous.

• Familiarity with Salesforce, Every Action, or similar tools is a plus.

• Experience or understanding of the fundamentals of Direct Action Organizing is beneficial.

• Strong written, oral, interpersonal, computer, and social media skills are essential.

• Excellent organizational and time management skills are required.

• Ability to manage multiple projects, work independently with minimal guidance, and operate effectively as a team member or leader.

• Capacity to address fast-paced, time-sensitive issues involving internal and external stakeholders.

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with state and federal legislative officials.

• Skill in fostering effective relationships with diverse individuals and communities.

• Ability to efficiently complete tasks across various venues and state political landscapes, ensuring accuracy.

• Proficiency in utilizing available technology to fulfill job responsibilities.

• Willingness to travel by car, train, or plane as necessary.

• Ability to regularly travel and work within the communities of Maine, New Hampshire, or Vermont as required.
