Generator Field Technician, Commercial, LV/MV Electrical, Data Center, Facilities Management

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Oversee maintenance and repairs for both contracted and non-contracted generator and power distribution equipment.

• Offer technical assistance to clients regarding operational and maintenance issues.

• Travel daily and operate independently at customer locations.

• Provide on-call services 24/7 as necessary.

• Install and substitute batteries as required.

• Conduct scheduled preventative maintenance for contracted equipment.

• Engage with customers effectively.

• Communicate availability status to the corporate office diligently.

• Safeguard all company-issued equipment, tools, instruments, proprietary information, manuals, and records.

• Utilize electronic and electrical testing equipment proficiently.

• Coordinate and manage subcontractors on-site as needed.

• Keep the company vehicle in a safe and operational condition.

• Ensure all work complies with PSS standards.

• Accurately complete Field Service Reports, timesheets, expense reports, and other necessary paperwork in a timely manner.

• Provide technical support to customers on request.

• Maintain comprehensive technical documentation.

• Cross-train in various areas as required.

• Mentor mid- to high-level technicians as needed.

⛳️ Requirements

• Level II Technician: minimum of three years of field experience servicing generator systems, with some experience on 500kW+ equipment.

• Level III Technician: minimum of six years of field experience servicing generator systems, with extensive experience on 500kW+ equipment.

• Level IV Technician: at least ten years of field experience servicing generator systems of all sizes and applications.

• High School diploma or GED equivalent, related military experience, or equivalent field experience required.

• Experience with preventative maintenance, paralleling switchgear, ATS repairs, controller retrofits, and loadbanking equipment.

• Ability to perform triennial maintenance, engine diagnostics, fuel system priming, and replacement of failed engine components.

• Experience with Volvo and PSI engines is preferred.

• Operational and functional understanding of Automatic Transfer Systems; capable of troubleshooting and repairing with minimal guidance.

• Possess expert troubleshooting skills.

• Expertise in reading schematics and wiring diagrams to diagnose electrical problems.

• Familiarity with Woodward, Beckwith, and PLC equipment in an advanced electrical-controls setting.

• Ability to read and interpret technical instructions, safety manuals, service manuals, policies, and procedures.

• Must adhere to all safety standards.

• Proficient in computer applications, including ERP systems, email, and Microsoft Office.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Demonstrated reasoning abilities and sound judgment.

• Process-oriented with strong attention to detail.

• Teamwork-oriented and collaborative.

• Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull weights ranging from 20 to 75 pounds.

• Must be capable of wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).

• Ability to drive a heavy-duty truck for up to 10 consecutive hours.

• Must successfully pass pre-employment screening, including background check, drug testing, and MVR clearance.

• Willingness to travel out of market/state up to 25% of the time.

• Willingness and capability to attend company-required training sessions.

• Must own and maintain a personal set of mechanical tools.
