General Surgery Medical Coder

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Analyze medical records to pinpoint relevant diagnoses and procedures.

• Determine principal and additional diagnoses and procedures utilizing UHDDS definitions.

• Ensure the correct assignment of DRGs.

• Extract information from medical records following client guidelines.

• Achieve productivity and quality performance standards.

• Input coded charts into company applications in real time during scheduled shifts.

• Seek physician clarification for unclear or contradictory documentation.

• Engage in team meetings and mandatory training sessions.

• Provide training or mentorship to other coders as requested.

• Collaborate across various clients to fulfill required classification hours.

• Contribute to Coding Roundtables by presenting materials on coding and Health Information Management, including articles and current issues.

• Keep abreast of the latest Coding Clinic, CPT Assistant, and Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting.

• Complete assigned educational modules.

• Maintain effective and professional communication, enhancing the company’s image positively.

⛳️ Requirements

• Required credential: CPC, COC, CIC, CCA, CCS, CCS-P, RHIT, or RHIA.

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in coding a diverse range of General Surgery procedures in Profee and Facility charts.

• At least 2 years of experience coding Ophthalmology and multispecialty Profee and Facility charts.

• Proficient in coding diagnoses, E&M, and CPTs.

• At least 3 years of surgical coding experience encompassing a variety of procedures, including tonsillectomy, tumor excision, tracheostomy, lymph node removal, thyroid lobectomy, skin graft, laminotomy, facetectomy, foraminotomy, herniated disk repair, vertebral augmentation, and spinal fixation.

• Knowledgeable in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, surgical technology, pharmacology, and disease processes.

• Extensive understanding of ICD-10-CM, CPS, and CPT coding principles and guidelines, as well as reimbursement systems, and federal, state, and payer-specific regulations and policies related to documentation, coding, and billing.

• Must successfully pass a coding proficiency examination.

• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

• High level of coding accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.

• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

• Ability to maintain active and current coding credentials.
