General Surgery Medical Coder

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Analyze medical records to pinpoint relevant diagnoses and procedures associated with patient encounters.

• Determine the principal diagnosis, principal procedure, along with other diagnoses and procedures following UHDDS standards.

• Guarantee accurate DRG assignment.

• Extract information from medical records per client protocols.

• Achieve productivity and quality performance benchmarks.

• Input coded charts in real-time utilizing company applications during scheduled shifts.

• Consult with physicians regarding unclear or contradictory documentation.

• Engage in team meetings and mandatory training sessions.

• Mentor or observe fellow coders as needed.

• Adapt assignments across multiple clients to fulfill required classification hours.

• Contribute to Coding Roundtables by sharing coding and Health Information Management resources, articles, and current topics.

• Stay updated on Coding Clinic, CPT Assistant, and the Official Guidelines for Coding and Reporting.

• Complete designated educational modules.

• Keep coding credentials valid and up to date.

• Maintain professional communication and enhance the company’s image positively.

• Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Mandatory credential: CPC, COC, CIC, CCA, CCS, CCS-P, RHIT, or RHIA.

• Minimum of 3 years of experience coding various General Surgery procedures in Profee and Facility charts.

• At least 2 years of coding experience in Ophthalmology and multispecialty Profee and Facility charts.

• Proficient in coding diagnoses, E&M, and CPTs.

• A minimum of 3+ years of surgical coding experience across a range of procedures, including tonsillectomy, tumor excision, tracheostomy, lymph node removal, thyroid lobectomy, skin graft, laminotomy, facetectomy, foraminotomy, herniated disk repair, vertebral augmentation, spinal fixation, and allograft.

• Solid understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, surgical technology, pharmacology, and disease processes.

• Comprehensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPS, and CPT coding principles and guidelines, as well as reimbursement systems and federal, state, and payer-specific documentation, coding, and billing regulations and policies.

• Must successfully complete a coding proficiency examination.

• Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written.

• High level of coding accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.

• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

• Experience with Epic/3M is preferred, though training may be available.
