General Manager – Custody & Compliance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Cyprus, +5 more countries.

📋 Description

• Take full ownership of Custody & Compliance from start to finish, encompassing strategy, roadmap, priorities, budget, and business outcomes.

• Establish and monitor key performance indicators for deposits, withdrawals, KYC, fraud, and customer activation.

• Enhance the speed and conversion of customer onboarding and money movement processes.

• Balance risk management with customer experience and commercial implications.

• Develop financial and operational models to facilitate data-driven business decisions.

• Collaborate directly with C-level executives on strategic initiatives and priorities.

• Manage custody infrastructure, relationships with custody providers, and the flow of deposits and withdrawals.

• Enhance the speed, reliability, and success rates of transaction processing.

• Handle incidents and critical issues related to customer funds.

• Implement operational aspects of KYC, AML, and Travel Rule regulations.

• Create scalable compliance operations that include case management, decision SLAs, escalation procedures, and workflows.

• Examine false positives and identify missed fraud cases.

• Establish fraud-prevention measures and monitor fraud losses and false-positive rates.

• Manage provider relationships, negotiate commercial and operational terms, drive integrations, and ensure service level accountability.

• Lead a dedicated engineering team and collaborate closely with the Tech Lead.

• Oversee priorities, backlog, releases, and delivery; establish goals and measurable outcomes.

• Recruit, mentor, and make performance-related decisions as necessary.

• Leverage AI and automation to maintain a lean team and enhance execution speed.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive hands-on experience in crypto custody, payments, KYC/AML, or related financial infrastructure.

• Proven experience managing custody and compliance processes within a crypto exchange, wallet, broker, crypto bank, BaaS, custody platform, or equivalent environment.

• Practical experience with platforms such as Fireblocks, Copper, BitGo, Uphold, or comparable systems.

• Strong grasp of KYC, AML, Travel Rule, transaction monitoring, and fraud prevention strategies.

• Experience in developing operational compliance processes at scale.

• Direct experience working with external providers and negotiating commercial agreements.

• A solid product and commercial orientation.

• Capability to comprehend how compliance decisions impact conversion rates, revenue, and customer experience.

• Strong analytical abilities and comfortable making data-informed decisions.

• Technical proficiency and the ability to collaborate directly with engineers.

• Experience managing teams and overseeing project delivery.

• Background in crypto or fintech is strongly preferred.
