General Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Act as the primary legal advisor for the company across all business areas.

• Collaborate closely with founders and executive leadership on strategic projects and business decisions.

• Direct compliance efforts regarding CLIA, CAP, FDA, HIPAA, advertising, privacy, marketing, and other regulatory matters.

• Offer insights on claims substantiation, consumer protection obligations, and risk management strategies.

• Manage litigation strategy, resolve disputes, and maintain relationships with external counsel.

• Oversee intellectual property matters, trademarks, licensing, and initiatives for brand protection.

• Evaluate and negotiate commercial agreements, vendor contracts, partnership agreements, and corporate transactions.

• Counsel product, marketing, operations, and growth teams on legal implications and business prospects.

• Create scalable legal processes, policies, and frameworks to support the company's expansion.

• Balance the need for speed, innovation, and risk management in a fast-paced startup atmosphere.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 10 years of legal experience, with substantial expertise in supporting consumer-facing companies.

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and active membership in the bar.

• Proven experience advising high-growth businesses in consumer goods, healthcare, wellness, subscription services, ecommerce, or regulated industries.

• Comprehensive knowledge of CLIA, CAP, HIPAA, FDA, marketing, and consumer protection regulations.

• Strong background in managing claims substantiation and regulatory review processes.

• Experience in overseeing litigation, class action cases, and working with outside counsel.

• Solid experience in commercial contracting and negotiation.

• Demonstrated capability to act as a strategic business partner to founders and executive teams.

• Exceptional judgment with the ability to balance legal risks against business goals.

• Comfortable working independently in fast-paced and changing environments.

• Strong communication skills with a talent for simplifying complex legal issues for non-legal audiences.

• Experience as General Counsel or Associate General Counsel at a rapidly growing consumer brand.

• Background in supporting healthcare, diagnostics, wellness, supplements, or health technology firms.

• Familiarity with navigating M&A transactions and corporate development initiatives.

• Experience assisting venture-backed startups during periods of rapid growth.

• Prior experience at a prestigious law firm.
