This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oregon.
• Act as AutoBidMaster’s principal in-house legal consultant
• Lead the company's legal strategy and ensure the resolution of legal matters
• Oversee Terms & Conditions, customer agreements, e-commerce disclosures, sales documentation, and other legal materials related to transactions
• Direct legal strategy for commercial transactions, contracting, and business risk management
• Advise executive leadership on transactions, contractual rights and responsibilities, risk allocation, and commercial decisions
• Provide legal advice for new products, services, partnerships, and business initiatives
• Establish standards, templates, and processes for contracting
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts related to vendors, partners, technology, services, and insurance
• Manage DMV, dealer licensing, consumer protection, and both state and federal regulatory requirements
• Oversee licenses, registrations, corporate filings, compliance of entities, corporate resolutions, and documents
• Monitor regulatory changes and propose updates to processes, policies, and documentation
• Resolve escalated customer complaints and disputes
• Address complaints involving government agencies, regulators, consumer organizations, and third parties
• Suggest dispute resolution strategies considering legal exposure, costs, and business implications
• Oversee and manage litigation, arbitration, small claims, lawsuits, and other disputes
• Develop and implement litigation strategies, including decisions on defense, pursuit, settlement, or resolution
• Directly manage litigation and arbitration as appropriate, while selectively engaging outside counsel
• Maintain accountability for litigation strategy, objectives, deadlines, outcomes, and legal expenditures
• Serve as the main legal advisor to executive leadership and business teams
• Conduct legal research and provide written or verbal recommendations
• Assist with other legal and business projects as required
• J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar
• Preference for multiple state bar admissions, particularly in Florida, Oregon, and Texas
• Approximately 8+ years of legal experience preferred, including significant experience as a corporate generalist
• Strong preference for prior in-house experience
• Proven experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts and business agreements
• Experience in consumer-facing sectors, e-commerce, automotive vehicle sales, dealerships, auctions, marketplaces, technology, or other regulated industries is preferred
• Familiarity with DMV, dealer licensing, title, or related automotive regulatory matters is advantageous
• Experience in managing customer disputes, regulatory complaints, litigation, arbitration, and collaboration with outside counsel
• Strong business judgment with the ability to assess both legal and commercial risks
• Proficient in analyzing issues independently, making strategic recommendations, and owning outcomes
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Highly organized with the capability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
• Practical, self-driven, and comfortable working autonomously
• Hands-on approach with a willingness to draft documents, conduct research, and manage daily legal matters
• Willingness to travel occasionally as required
