Associate General Counsel, Legal

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +5 more states.

📋 Description

• Provide counsel to the General Counsel and senior executives regarding intricate legal, regulatory, commercial, operational, and reputational risks.

• Direct strategic legal areas of expertise and offer actionable guidance that aligns with business goals, risk appetite, and international operations.

• Manage the drafting, negotiation, and execution of complex agreements related to clinical research and sponsor interactions.

• Collaborate with departments such as Business Development, Finance, Clinical Operations, and other stakeholders to enhance contracting processes and improve business outcomes.

• Work alongside Quality, Data Privacy, Information Security, Regulatory, and Compliance teams to address GxP, privacy, data integrity, and regulatory responsibilities.

• Assist with enterprise risk management, investigations, compliance initiatives, governance programs, and the escalation of critical legal risks.

• Provide legal advice for mergers, acquisitions, strategic alliances, corporate governance issues, disputes, and other significant business endeavors.

• Lead, mentor, and cultivate the development of legal professionals.

• Promote operational excellence through improved processes, metrics, technology integration, automation, and knowledge management.

⛳️ Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school (or an equivalent legal qualification suitable for the jurisdiction).

• Active legal practice license and good standing in at least one relevant jurisdiction.

• 8-12+ years of increasingly responsible legal experience.

• Extensive in-house leadership experience in a CRO, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, healthcare, or similarly regulated life sciences setting.

• Experience in providing support for complex clinical research services, sponsor agreements, regulated operations, and global legal or compliance issues.

• Strong proficiency in commercial contracting, including master services agreements, statements of work, change orders, clinical research agreements, data protection agreements, and similar sponsor-facing contracts.

• Familiarity with global clinical research regulations, GxP standards, data privacy and security requirements, healthcare compliance, and research-related contracting.

• Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, delegation, and change management skills in a global, matrixed organization.

• Exceptional legal judgment, business insight, executive-level communication abilities, and capability to oversee multiple high-priority issues.

• Proficiency in English.

• Strong skills in Microsoft 365, legal technology platforms, workflow automation instruments, analytics, and responsible AI solutions.
