Functional Software Engineer

📋 Description

• Design, develop, test, and uphold dependable software utilizing functional programming principles.

• Create clear, modular, and maintainable solutions for intricate engineering challenges.

• Utilize strong typing, domain modeling, and abstraction to enhance software correctness and reliability.

• Collaborate with engineers, technical leads, and client stakeholders to comprehend requirements and deliver effective solutions.

• Participate in system design and architecture, ensuring a balance between correctness, simplicity, performance, and maintainability.

• Write automated tests and apply suitable techniques to confirm system behavior.

• Review code, disseminate technical knowledge, and contribute to engineering standards.

• Investigate and resolve complex technical issues within existing systems.

• Communicate technical decisions and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Adapt to various client environments, codebases, and technical challenges.

• Contribute to the ongoing improvement of engineering practices, tools, and delivery processes.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in developing and delivering production software.

• Strong grasp of software engineering fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, testing, and software design.

• Experience with functional programming, either in a professional setting or through significant projects.

• Capability to analyze complex problems and convert requirements into well-structured software.

• Excellent debugging and problem-solving abilities.

• Dedication to code quality, correctness, and maintainability.

• Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with fellow engineers.

• Eagerness to learn new technologies and work across diverse technical environments.

• Preferred: Experience with Haskell, Scala, OCaml, F#, Clojure, or other functional programming languages.

• Preferred: Knowledge of type systems, algebraic data types, pattern matching, and immutable data structures.

• Preferred: Experience in strongly typed domain modeling and functional design patterns.

• Preferred: Familiarity with distributed systems, concurrent programming, or backend infrastructure.

• Preferred: Experience in blockchain, financial infrastructure, capital markets, or other areas where correctness and reliability are crucial.

• Preferred: Familiarity with property-based testing and other methods for validating complex software behavior.

• Preferred: Experience with Nix or reproducible development environments.

• Preferred: Background in an engineering consultancy or direct collaboration with client teams.
