FSP Functional Lead, Medical Writing

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Provide strategic and program-level leadership across one or more Medical Writing FSP groups.

• Establish and communicate clear priorities and direction.

• Lead, develop, and inspire high-performing teams.

• Manage recruitment, performance management, coaching, mentoring, and colleague development.

• Develop organizational structures that align with business priorities, client needs, and future growth.

• Spearhead changes to departmental scope, processes, and operating models.

• Develop and manage departmental budgets, resource planning, capacity forecasting, and workload management.

• Advocate for Medical Writing capabilities throughout the organization and ensure visibility with senior stakeholders.

• Cultivate cross-functional relationships across PPD functions.

• Anticipate evolving business, regulatory, and client requirements and navigate through change.

• Identify and create innovative strategies to enhance capabilities, processes, and service delivery.

• Recognize opportunities for new projects, partnerships, and business growth.

• Collaborate with Business Development and senior leadership on new business initiatives, client presentations, proposals, budgets, and contract negotiations.

• Foster senior client relationships and address complex client and operational issues.

• Manage and escalate significant program or project risks and issues.

• Represent and advocate for the Medical Writing function both internally and externally.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive relevant industry experience, typically acquired over 15+ years, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and professional experience.

• Significant experience in people leadership, typically 7+ years in management or leadership roles.

• Proven experience in leading senior, geographically dispersed, and/or client-dedicated teams.

• In-depth knowledge of global and regional medical writing and regulatory requirements across clinical development, marketing authorization, and post-authorization/late-phase activities.

• Comprehensive understanding of the product development lifecycle and the role of Medical Writing within it.

• Strong strategic leadership abilities.

• Excellent people leadership skills, including performance management, coaching, mentoring, talent development, and organizational design.

• Robust program and project management skills, including resource planning, budgeting, forecasting, prioritization, and risk management.

• Commercial awareness and experience in contributing to business development, proposals, client presentations, and/or contract discussions.

• Proven track record of developing effective cross-functional partnerships and influencing stakeholders at senior levels.

• Capability to lead through change and effectively influence without direct authority.

• Evidence of implementing new ideas, processes, or approaches that enhance quality, efficiency, or client outcomes.

• Exceptional communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.

• Strong judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
