Freelance Animation Artist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Create high-quality, hyper-realistic animations for creatures, characters, and animated items.

• Produce refined animation that aligns with creative vision and production standards.

• Implement animation principles such as timing, weight, arcs, and posing.

• Modify animations for realistic creatures, mechanical objects, and stylized characters.

• Understand and interpret creative direction and reference materials to craft detailed performances.

• Suggest innovative ideas and motion selections that enhance narrative storytelling.

• Incorporate feedback to elevate the quality of animations.

• Ensure animations are neat, functional, and ready for export to downstream departments.

• Resolve rigging and scene-related challenges in collaboration with technical teams.

• Adhere to naming conventions, file organization, and pipeline technical requirements.

• Provide time estimates and communicate any issues or delays effectively.

• Work collaboratively with production teams, leads, and other departments.

• Participate in daily meetings and reviews, showcasing work and addressing feedback.

• Share tools, techniques, and strategies with colleagues.

• Engage in learning opportunities, studio initiatives, and internal mentorship programs.

• Keep up-to-date with software, animation techniques, and industry developments.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 6 years of experience in a VFX or animation studio setting.

• Proficient in Maya.

• Strong grasp of body mechanics and facial animation.

• Capability to animate from references and create engaging acting performances.

• Exceptional attention to detail.

• Ability to work independently and manage deadlines effectively.

• Positive, collaborative attitude along with excellent communication skills.

• Experience with ShotGrid or other production tracking systems is a plus.

• Familiarity with rigging basics or custom tool development is an advantage.
