Founding Staff Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Collaborate closely with the founders and the initial product designer to develop, launch, and continuously enhance the product.

• Deliver the entire product, from database management to the user-facing interface.

• Utilize coding agents for implementation while concentrating on product decisions, experimental approaches, and AI trust boundaries.

• Take charge of the production loop, which includes data modeling, streaming, background processes, concurrency, payments, credit ledger, deployment, and observability.

• Ensure that production events can be reconstructed for troubleshooting failures.

• Create benchmarks and evaluations to ensure continuity, character behavior, narrative quality, and identify failure modes.

• Architect memory and context systems for stories that span hundreds of interactions.

• Choose and allocate models to various tasks.

• Manage retrieval, orchestration, cost, and latency decisions.

• Set up sustainable engineering standards for agents.

• Rapidly test various approaches and make data-driven product and infrastructure choices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of relevant experience.

• In-depth knowledge of production engineering.

• Capability to build with models, context, memory, and evaluations.

• Proven experience in delivering consumer products from start to finish.

• Background in building and managing production systems centered around language models.

• Experience in diagnosing and resolving failures while interacting with real users.

• Ability to design experiments before constructing custom infrastructure.

• Skill in creating meaningful evaluations.

• Strong understanding of databases, APIs, concurrency, background processes, and production reliability.

• Design intuition and the confidence to make product decisions without extensive specifications.

• Authentic interest in product retention and enhancing user experience.

• Ability to articulate complex technical decisions in layman's terms.

• Comfortable in challenging discussions with founders and advisors.

• Preferred: Several years of experience as a full-stack product engineer.

• Preferred: Background as one of the initial engineers at an early-stage company.

• Preferred: Strong technical education from institutions such as IIT, NIT, IIIT, or BITS.

• Experience with TypeScript, Next.js, and Postgres.

• Familiarity with frontier models through APIs and background jobs.

• Must-have skills: Large language models, Backend development, System Design.

• Good-to-have skills: AI agents, LLM Evaluation, Full-Stack Development.
