
Founding Software Engineer – New Product

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Define the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and swiftly prototype various potential solutions.
• Assess technologies such as Three.js, WebGPU, WebGL, PlayCanvas, and other web gaming frameworks.
• Review the current browser-native prototype to decide which elements to keep or eliminate.
• Design the system architecture and establish the groundwork for the initial product.
• Determine the interaction between the browser-native product and the live Windows-native product.
• Investigate multiplayer functionalities, content compatibility, and the distinctions between browser-native and Windows-native products.
• Create an architecture that is conducive to an open-source community.
• Leverage AI-assisted development to expedite the development process and foster experimentation.
• Provide technical and architectural guidance while also serving as a hands-on contributor.
• Collaborate as the primary and initially sole engineer alongside the Head of Product and the wider Windows-native product engineering team.
• Assist in defining the product, making architectural choices, and writing code.
• Over 5 years of experience in software engineering, or a proven equivalent capability.
• Extensive experience in web-based game development and real-time 3D environments.
• Proficient in Three.js, WebGPU, WebGL, PlayCanvas, or similar technologies.
• Professional experience in Unity or game development.
• Strong grasp of various game development disciplines, including gameplay, rendering, networking, tools, engines, or technical art.
• Proven capability to quickly prototype and assess competing technologies.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development techniques.
• Strong product intuition and the ability to think like both a product owner and a technical leader.
• Excellent architectural judgment and communication abilities.
• Comfortable working independently in a dynamic and ambiguous startup atmosphere.
• Strong instincts for performance and optimization across diverse hardware platforms.
• Preferred: experience with game engines/editors, open-source projects, multiplayer functionalities, content pipelines, or launching products on both desktop and mobile platforms.
• Submission of a resume/LinkedIn profile along with examples of software, games, tools, prototypes, or other products developed.
• Initial engagement as a contractor for 3 months.
• Potential to continue working on the product.
• Opportunity for advancement into a more significant technical leadership position.
• Publicly available work on GitHub or similar platforms is highly regarded during the application process.
