Forward Deployed Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Collaborate across Sales, Product, R&D, and Implementation teams.

• Partner with Solutions Consultants and Account Executives on key accounts and new opportunities.

• Take ownership of discovery, technical scoping, architecture, implementation, evaluation, productionization, adoption, and handoff for key customer solutions.

• Quickly deploy the current product on customer data to demonstrate value within deals.

• Create, launch, and assess solutions utilizing customer data.

• Rapidly develop near-production-ready solutions to meet customer requirements using contemporary AI tools.

• Engineer production solutions ensuring security, reliability, observability, maintainability, and architectural integration.

• Assess adoption, workflow impact, reliability, and time-to-value; iterate with stakeholders.

• Collaborate with Product and R&D to transform validated customer patterns into roadmap investments, reusable components, and platform enhancements.

• Create reusable accelerators based on recurring customer needs.

• Develop and continuously refine solution specifications in partnership with customers.

• Analyze business potential, market needs, competitive differentiation, and functional/technical specifications with Product.

• Coordinate customer needs, ideas, roadmaps, and visions with Product and Sales teams.

• Evaluate role outcomes based on influenced ACV, prototype speed, production graduation, accelerator reuse, and addressing productized customer gaps.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong customer-facing and commercial skills.

• Ability to conduct technical discovery sessions and engage in value conversations with both technical and business stakeholders.

• Capability to link technical solutions to customer outcomes and deal value.

• Skill in generalizing customer solutions into reusable accelerators.

• Experience in LLM application development, RAG, prompt and context engineering, and agent orchestration.

• Sound judgment regarding single-agent versus multi-agent patterns, as well as managing memory and state.

• Familiarity with contemporary AI coding tools such as Claude Code.

• Knowledge of enterprise integrations within regulated utility markets.

• Understanding of ESRI ArcGIS/Smallworld, IBM Maximo/EAM, SAP/Oracle ERP/PPM, and PowerBI/reporting systems.

• Technical and functional comprehension of REST and streaming APIs, authentication patterns, and enterprise systems of record.

• Willingness to travel to customer sites as necessary, up to about 50%.

• Preferred background in software or data engineering.

• Experience in developing and delivering maintainable production software.

• Fluency in Angular, Python, or a comparable language is preferred.

• Understanding of SQL, data modeling, and the processes of ingestion, transformation, and serving pipelines is preferred.

• Strong debugging capabilities with imperfect customer data in live settings.

• Experience in production engineering focusing on observability, performance, and scalability.

• Prior experience in customer-facing technical roles, solutions engineering, forward deployment, technical consulting, or startups is preferred.

• Experience in deploying AI within enterprise or regulated environments is preferred.
