Forward Deployed Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Zealand.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with banking architecture, infrastructure, and product teams to gain insights into landscapes, challenges, and modernization objectives.

• Convert business requirements into technical specifications.

• Craft future-state banking architecture to promote innovation.

• Establish and nurture trusted relationships with bank engineering and architecture leadership.

• Convert deployment patterns, friction points, and unmet needs into product specifications and platform enhancements.

• Create proofs of concept and develop bank use cases from start to finish, including digital twins, checking accounts, and stablecoin wallets.

• Connect upstream and downstream systems using clean, robust, production-ready integration patterns.

• Construct and sustain high-performance data pipelines that link existing banking systems.

• Conduct performance testing and validate scalability, resilience, and failover behaviors.

• Assist sales efforts through technical demonstrations, architecture workshops, and platform training for potential clients.

• Travel to client locations as required, typically 25–50% depending on the engagement phase.

⛳️ Requirements

• Established history of delivering robust, scalable infrastructure in Go or comparable systems languages (Rust, Java).

• Extensive experience with Kafka, concurrency models, event-driven architectures, and multi-region databases.

• Strong expertise in AWS, GCP, or Azure.

• Familiarity with SRE principles, infrastructure as code, and Kubernetes/OpenShift.

• Experience in developing data-intensive systems and distributed data pipelines.

• Capability to integrate AI into workflows and knowledge of current LLM capabilities and agentic development methodologies.

• Over 4 years in a technical, client-facing role such as Forward Deployed Engineer, Solutions Architect, Consultant, or Software Engineer.

• Preference for understanding financial transaction flows, core banking systems, or banking technology.

• Ability to excel in uncertain situations and establish processes where none exist.

• Take ownership of outcomes and adeptness at resolving and preventing production issues.

• Proficiency in switching between coding, architectural design, and leading workshops.

• Willingness to travel to client sites as necessary.

• Candidates located near FIS office locations in Sydney, Australia, or Christchurch, New Zealand are expected to adhere to a hybrid work schedule.
