This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Lead, mentor, and nurture a team of reporters and editors through effective coaching, constructive feedback, and performance management.

• Establish editorial goals and hold team members accountable for meeting production, audience, and performance targets.

• Commission, edit, and publish impactful coverage on international news, geopolitics, and national security topics.

• Drive original reporting, exclusives, interviews, and enterprise journalism initiatives.

• Utilize audience data, analytics, and market intelligence to guide coverage and identify potential growth opportunities.

• Ensure reporters cultivate unique angles, sources, and story opportunities.

• React swiftly to breaking news and supervise comprehensive coverage plans, including live blogs and ongoing news operations.

• Collaborate with the News Director and senior editors on editorial strategies, newsroom planning, and special projects.

• Employ AI and automation tools judiciously to enhance newsroom efficiency and editorial excellence.

• Monitor global events, emerging trends, and audience interests to influence coverage priorities.

• Uphold accuracy, fairness, legal compliance, and journalistic integrity.

• Oversee the news operation during weekdays and on a rotational basis during weekends.

• Execute other reasonable tasks as required to fulfill business needs.


⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in editing and reporting at a well-regarded publication.

• Significant knowledge in international news, geopolitics, foreign affairs, or national security.

• Proven track record of managing journalists, coaching reporters, and developing talent.

• Demonstrated ability to drive audience growth and make editorial decisions informed by analytics.

• Strong history of commissioning and producing original reporting, exclusives, investigations, and interview-based journalism.

• Exceptional news judgment with a knack for identifying unique, audience-centric angles.

• Capability to lead teams in a dynamic digital newsroom and make decisions under pressure.

• Experience in setting objectives, managing performance, and ensuring staff accountability.

• Proficient and willing to responsibly use AI tools in editorial processes.

• Strong understanding of digital publishing platforms, CMS tools, analytics systems, and newsroom technologies.

• Excellent grasp of media law, editorial risks, and journalistic best practices.

• Outstanding communication, leadership, and organizational abilities.

• Flexibility to work varied hours, including rotational weekends.

• Ability to commit to a 5-day work week; typical weekday hours are 7am–4pm and weekend hours are 8am–5pm.
