
First Shift Supervisor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Vermont.
• Supervise a team of 5-7 staff members, encompassing full-time, part-time, and per diem employees.
• Provide weekly or as-needed one-on-one supervisory support.
• Create and maintain comprehensive supervision notes and written feedback.
• Collaborate with HR to complete performance documentation.
• Oversee program scheduling to ensure that two staff members are on duty at all times.
• Develop regular work schedules and manage coverage during staff leaves.
• Utilize tracked data to guide performance evaluations and decisions.
• Facilitate one team meeting per shift each month.
• Recruit, interview, and hire team members for the Vermont Support Line.
• Provide training, onboarding for new staff, and professional development opportunities for current staff.
• Offer on-call support to operators dealing with challenging calls or requiring assistance.
• Communicate program expectations and limitations to callers and texters.
• Engage in program outreach efforts.
• Participate in agency leadership meetings.
• Provide confidential peer support using choice-based, person-centered, risk reduction, and strengths-based approaches.
• Adhere to policies and procedures, including emergency and on-call protocols.
• Complete the Certified Peer Support Provider (CPSP) process.
• Attend mandatory meetings, training sessions, and paid annual retreats.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• Must reside and work in Vermont.
• Must be able to attend one team meeting monthly and one supervision session weekly.
• Direct lived experience of what is commonly referred to as a mental health challenge or crisis (not limited to substance use challenges), with a willingness to share when appropriate.
• Capability to meet the requirements of the Certified Peer Support Provider (CPSP) process with The Copeland Center.
• Willingness to share personal life experiences with intentionality and thoughtfulness.
• Commitment to delivering quality peer support and alignment with peer values/ethics.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences, including those who have faced marginalization, oppression, and injustice.
• Openness to self-reflection, learning, and taking responsibility.
• Willingness to practice new relational approaches and seek support when necessary.
• Ability to navigate crisis situations while establishing professional boundaries and personal limits.
• Comfort with risk and discomfort.
• Willingness to seek reconnection after disconnection.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Advanced computer literacy skills; experience with Google Suite is preferred.
• Ability to multitask between phone calls, text lines, and team communications.
• Capacity to independently fulfill job requirements.
• High school diploma or equivalent work experience.
• Availability to work occasional holidays.
• Must be able to work at least one weekend shift.
• Must be available for on-call duties for one shift outside of the regular schedule and respond within 30 minutes.
• Ability to independently identify areas where feedback may be beneficial.
• Comfort with providing and documenting structured guidance and feedback.
• Strong professional writing skills, including the ability to complete formal performance documentation as necessary.
• Knowledge of community resources and supports.
• Ability to complete tasks successfully with minimal oversight.
• At least one year of experience in previous peer support roles and an understanding of the peer movement’s history (preferred).
• Professional peer support experience, Intentional Peer Support certification, and CPSP certification (preferred).
• At least one year of supervisory experience (preferred).
• Experience in group facilitation (preferred).
• Awareness of or experience with at least two of the following: the consumer/psychiatric survivor/ex-patient movement, mad pride movement, neurodivergence, risk reduction, healing justice, and disability justice (preferred).
• Ability to work from home independently in a confidential environment with limited distractions.
• Reliable internet connection.
• Daily operation of a computer and virtual phone software.
• Ability to attend mandatory meetings and training unless excused by the employee’s manager/HR.
• Ability to attend annual All Staff and Programmatic Retreats unless excused by the employee’s manager/HR.
