Fire & Security Estimator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Analyze architectural floor plans, survey notes, photographs, and site videos to assess layouts and establish project scope.

• Evaluate existing fire and security systems to identify necessary components, systems, and hardware.

• Calculate material needs, device quantities, cable runs, and labor requirements based on remote survey information.

• Create detailed, itemized quotes and material lists while adhering to target profit margins.

• Obtain supplier pricing for specialized hardware to ensure competitive component costs.

• Discover opportunities for system upgrades, enhancements, or modernizations during design evaluations.

• Transform field engineer notes and site reports into professional quotes for clients.

• Collaborate with engineers and clients to clarify technical specifications or request site visits when necessary.

• Ensure designs comply with manufacturer guidelines and applicable British Standards.

• Respond to technical inquiries to support the internal Operations and Service teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• Demonstrated experience in estimating, desktop surveying, or system design in the Fire & Security sector.

• Knowledge of fire alarms, intruder alarms, IP CCTV, and access control systems.

• Capability to interpret and extract measurements from scale floor plans and schematic diagrams.

• Familiarity with relevant British Standards for fire and security installations.

• Proficiency in calculating margins, estimating labor, and generating accurate project costs.

• Skilled in MS Office (Excel/Word) and standard quoting software.

• Previous hands-on experience as an installation or service engineer is preferred.

• Experience utilizing CAD or PDF markup tools (e.g., Bluebeam) for digital takeoffs is preferred.

• Familiarity with major industry brands (e.g., Texecom, Hikvision, Paxton, C-TEC, Ajax, EMS Smartcell, Pyronix) is preferred.
