This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.
• Conduct investigations into fire incidents to ascertain origin, cause, and accountability.
• Accept investigative assignments from clients regarding losses or claims and carry out investigations based on assignment requirements.
• Establish the origin and cause of losses/claims while identifying any potential third-party liability for subrogation.
• Adhere to required reporting obligations to clients in line with EFI protocols.
• Advocate and promote EFI services within the insurance sector and designated regions.
• Serve as a liaison between the insurance industry and law enforcement/fire service personnel.
• Investigate claims/losses that involve illegal activities, fraud, or subrogation considerations.
• Identify and conduct interviews with witnesses and individuals involved.
• Review public records, which may include land deeds, mortgages, liens, lawsuits, judgments, and marriage/divorce records.
• Ensure that investigations align with privacy legislation and public-record access rules.
• Travel as necessary.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• Minimum requirement of NAFI Certified Fire & Explosion Investigator (CFEI) certification.
• IAAI Certified Fire Investigator (IAAI-CFI) certification is highly preferred.
• Must obtain IAAI-CFI certification within six months of eligibility to take the certification exam.
• A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is preferred.
• A minimum of three (3) years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Proficient in PC use, including Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Good analytical and interpretative capabilities.
• Strong investigative proficiency.
• High attention to detail and accuracy.
• Capability to work independently or collaboratively in a team setting.
• Ability to meet or surpass performance competencies.
• Capacity to stand and/or walk for extended periods.
• Ability to kneel, squat, bend, climb, crawl, stoop, and reach/work overhead.
• Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, both hot and cold.
• Physical ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
• Capacity to push/pull up to 100 pounds.
• Ability to drive for up to 4 hours daily.
