This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Assess daily schedules to pinpoint patients needing financial clearance.
• Inform patients about their anticipated financial responsibilities, such as deductibles, copayments, coinsurance, and out-of-pocket maximums.
• Convey treatment costs and payment expectations prior to the commencement of services.
• Aid patients in comprehending their financial obligations before receiving services.
• Analyze financial risks related to scheduled services, including coverage limitations, medical necessity concerns, frequency limitations, and out-of-network benefits and coverages.
• Recognize accounts that may lead to patient balances or denied claims.
• Elevate high-risk accounts to leadership or relevant teams.
• Cooperate with clinical and administrative teams to mitigate claim denial risks.
• Facilitate the resolution of pre-service financial issues that affect reimbursement.
• Identify trends related to financial risk and patient responsibility.
• Keep precise records of financial discussions with patients.
• Ensure documentation is clear, comprehensive, and adheres to organizational standards.
• Uphold patient confidentiality in line with HIPAA regulations.
• Collaborate with clinical and administrative teams regarding patient financial readiness.
• Support accurate and prompt revenue cycle processes.
• Deliver outstanding customer service.
• Handle multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.
• Assist with additional duties and projects as required.
• At least 4 years of experience in a healthcare business office or revenue cycle position preferred.
• In-depth knowledge of insurance, benefits, and patient Financial Assistance Programs.
• Solid understanding of oncology treatment pathways.
• Familiarity with high-cost oncology medications, infusion services, and specialty pharmacy billing preferred.
• Working knowledge of diagnosis-driven financial implications (differences in costs for metastatic vs. early-stage treatments) preferred.
• Experience with billing systems and interpreting Explanation of Benefits (EOBs).
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
• Capability to navigate multiple systems efficiently, including EMR, Registration/PMS systems, and VOB systems.
• Ability to verify authorization and financial clearance with minimal guidance from supervisors and leadership.
• Strong critical thinking skills and adaptability to process and workflow changes.
• Experience in oncology or specialty care preferred.
• Familiarity with ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding, managed care concepts, and fee structures.
• Background in financial counseling or patient-facing financial roles.
