Field Technician II

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nevada.

📋 Description

• Provide assistance to designated locations, which include data centers, Points of Presence (POPs), and physical site services.

• Collaborate with network teams and local vendors for installation, repair, and maintenance tasks.

• Implement physical-layer rack and stack configurations.

• Uphold quality standards at assigned data center sites and remote POPs.

• Execute physical installation, repair, maintenance, and testing activities.

• Aid in card additions or replacements, software upgrades, and related testing.

• Suggest enhancements to processes impacting the quality and efficiency of network assets.

• Provide site survey assistance for OSP and ISP projects, large space and power initiatives, and equipment deployments.

• Conduct site audits and rectify data discrepancies with Network Surveillance and other teams.

• Assist in the management of local construction vendors to ensure adherence to installation, repair, maintenance MOPs, standards, quality, and cleanliness.

• Coordinate with LEC and other technicians to streamline installation, repair, and maintenance processes.

• Carry out site surveys for network builds, augmentations, and decommissioning projects.

• Support site access, equipment staging, and related activities.

• Travel as necessary.

• Perform additional duties as required.

⛳️ Requirements

• An Associate's degree (A.A) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, along with 2 to 5 years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Comprehensive knowledge of data center and POP infrastructure, including OSP, ISP, interfacility cabling, fiber and copper distribution, AC/DC power systems, environmental controls, and relay rack/cabinet/cage construction.

• Familiarity with the installation and maintenance of telecom/network equipment, such as DWDMs, backbone and management routers, IP switches, and optical and digital infrastructure.

• Understanding of splicing and working in manhole, vault, or handhole environments.

• Proficiency in telecommunications testing equipment, including microscopes, source and power meters, and OTDRs; experience in testing SONET and Ethernet bandwidths.

• Familiarity with telecommunications testing standards and procedures, including length, wire-mapping, bit error rate, power, delay, loss, reflectance, and dispersion.

• Awareness of state and local regulatory standards, procedures, and permitting requirements.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with LEC and other telecom service provider technicians, building landlords, electricians, construction operators, and non-technical end users.

• Capacity to work independently, diagnose issues, and take appropriate actions with minimal supervision.

• Experience with spreadsheets, workflow and project management applications, and administrative software applications.

• Understanding of how to utilize a Tier-1 ITSM platform.

• Competence in performing office-related tasks, moving within an office environment, using a computer, and communicating effectively.

• Some positions may require occasional repetitive motions or movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
