Field Technician II

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nevada.

📋 Description

• Offer assistance to designated locations, which include data centers, Points of Presence (POPs), and on-site services.

• Collaborate with network teams and local vendors for installation, repair, and maintenance tasks.

• Implement physical-layer rack and stack setups.

• Uphold quality standards at specified data centers and remote POPs.

• Conduct physical installation, repair, maintenance, and testing operations.

• Support card additions or replacements, software updates, and related testing.

• Suggest process enhancements that influence network asset quality and operational effectiveness.

• Provide site survey assistance for OSP and ISP projects, as well as large space, power, and equipment deployments.

• Execute site audits and rectify data inconsistencies with Network Surveillance and other teams.

• Aid in the management of local construction vendors to ensure adherence to MOPs, standards, quality, and cleanliness.

• Coordinate with LECs and other technicians to streamline installation, repair, and maintenance tasks.

• Conduct site surveys for network constructions, augmentations, and decommissions.

• Assist with site access, equipment staging, and related responsibilities.

• Travel as necessary.

• Carry out additional duties as needed.

⛳️ Requirements

• Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical institution, along with 2 to 5 years of relevant experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Familiarity with data center and POP infrastructure, which includes OSP, ISP, interfacility cabling, fiber and copper distribution, AC/DC power systems, environmental controls, and relay rack/cabinet/cage construction.

• Experience with the installation and maintenance of telecom/network equipment, such as DWDMs, backbone and management routers, IP switches, and optical and digital infrastructure.

• Knowledge of splicing and working within manhole, vault, or handhole settings.

• Proficiency in telecommunications testing equipment, including microscopes, source and power meters, and OTDRs; experience in testing SONET and Ethernet bandwidths.

• Understanding of telecommunications testing standards and procedures, including length, wire-mapping, bit error rate, power, delay, loss, reflectance, and dispersion.

• Awareness of state and local regulatory standards, procedures, and permitting necessities.

• Capability to collaborate effectively with LEC and other telecom service provider technicians, building landlords, electricians, construction operators, and non-technical users.

• Ability to work autonomously, troubleshoot issues, and take suitable actions with minimal oversight.

• Proficient in using spreadsheets, workflow and project management software, and administrative applications.

• Understanding of how to utilize a Tier-1 ITSM platform.

• Competent in performing office-related tasks, including prolonged sitting or standing, moving within an office setting, using a computer, and communicating effectively.

• Capacity to execute occasional repetitive wrist, hand, and finger movements.
