Field Technician I

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nevada.

📋 Description

• Provide assistance to designated locations, encompassing data centers, Points of Presence (POPs), and physical site services.

• Collaborate with network teams and local vendors for installation, repair, and maintenance tasks.

• Execute physical installation, repair, maintenance, and testing activities.

• Aid in executing card additions or replacements, software upgrades, and related testing.

• Suggest process enhancements that influence network asset quality and operational efficiency.

• Offer site survey support for OSP and ISP projects, large space and power initiatives, and equipment deployments.

• Conduct site audits and resolve data inconsistencies with Network Surveillance and other departments.

• Assist in overseeing local construction vendors to ensure adherence to installation, repair, and maintenance MOPs, standards, quality, and cleanliness.

• Coordinate with LEC and other technicians to facilitate installation, repair, and maintenance efforts.

• Conduct site surveys for network constructions, enhancements, or decommissions.

• Support site access coordination, equipment staging, and related responsibilities.

• Follow established procedures for routine tasks, guided by detailed instructions.

• Perform additional duties as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• Associate's degree (A.A) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical institution, with 0 to 2 years of related experience and/or training; or a suitable combination of education and experience.

• Familiarity with data center and POP infrastructure, including OSP, ISP, interfacility cabling, fiber and copper distribution, AC/DC power systems, environmental controls, and relay rack/cabinet/cage construction.

• Experience in installing and maintaining telecom/network equipment, such as DWDMs, backbone and management routers, IP switches, and optical and digital infrastructure.

• Knowledge of splicing and operations in manhole, vault, or handhole environments.

• Proficiency with telecommunications testing equipment, including microscopes, source and power meters, and OTDRs; experience testing SONET and Ethernet bandwidths.

• Understanding of telecommunications testing standards and procedures, including wire-mapping, bit error rate, power, delay, loss, reflectance, and dispersion.

• Awareness of state and local regulatory standards, procedures, and permitting requirements.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with LECs, telecom service providers, landlords, electricians, construction operators, and non-technical end users.

• Capability to work independently, diagnose issues, and take appropriate action with minimal supervision.

• Experience with spreadsheets, workflow and project management applications, and administrative software.

• Understanding of how to utilize a Tier-1 ITSM platform.

• Ability to perform office-related tasks, navigate an office environment, utilize a computer, and communicate effectively.
