Field Technician I

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nevada.

📋 Description

• Offer support to designated locations, which include data centers, Points of Presence (POPs), and onsite services.

• Collaborate with networking teams and local suppliers for installation, repair, and maintenance tasks.

• Execute physical-layer rack and stack configurations.

• Uphold quality standards at assigned data centers and remote POPs.

• Aid in physical installations, repairs, maintenance, and testing activities.

• Assist with card additions or replacements, software updates, and related testing.

• Suggest process enhancements that impact network asset quality and operational efficiency.

• Provide support for site surveys related to OSP and ISP projects, large space and power initiatives, and equipment deployments.

• Conduct site audits and address data discrepancies with Network Surveillance and other teams.

• Help manage local construction vendors to ensure compliance with installation, repair, and maintenance MOPs, standards, quality, and cleanliness.

• Coordinate with LEC and other technicians to support installation, repair, and maintenance efforts.

• Conduct site surveys for network builds, expansions, and decommissioning activities.

• Assist with site access, equipment staging, and similar tasks.

• Travel as necessary.

• Perform additional duties as required.

⛳️ Requirements

• An Associate's degree (A.A) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school with 0 to 2 years of related experience and/or training; or a comparable combination of education and experience.

• Understanding of data center and POP infrastructure, covering OSP, ISP, interfacility cabling, fiber and copper distribution, AC/DC power systems, environmental controls, and relay rack/cabinet/cage construction.

• Familiarity with the installation and maintenance of telecom/network equipment, such as DWDMs, backbone and management routers, IP switches, and optical and digital infrastructure.

• Comprehension of splicing and operations within manhole, vault, or handhole settings.

• Knowledge of telecommunications testing equipment, including microscopes, source and power meters, and OTDRs; experience in testing SONET and Ethernet bandwidths.

• Awareness of telecommunications testing standards and procedures, including wire-mapping, bit error rate, power, delay, loss, reflectance, and dispersion.

• Familiarity with state and local regulatory standards, procedures, and permitting requirements.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with LEC and other telecom service provider technicians, building landlords, electricians, construction operators, and non-technical end users.

• Capability to work independently, diagnose issues, and take appropriate actions with minimal supervision.

• Experience with spreadsheets, workflow and project management applications, and administrative software applications.

• Understanding of how to utilize a Tier-1 ITSM platform.

• Ability to perform office-related tasks, navigate within an office environment, use a computer, and communicate effectively.

• Ability to occasionally perform repetitive wrist, hand, and finger movements as necessary.
