Field Technician I

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nevada.

📋 Description

• Deliver assistance to designated locations, which include data centers, Points of Presence (POPs), and physical site services.

• Collaborate with network teams and local vendors for installation, repair, and maintenance tasks.

• Implement physical-layer rack and stack configurations.

• Uphold quality standards at assigned data center sites and remote POPs.

• Support physical installation, repair, maintenance, and testing operations.

• Aid in performing card additions or replacements, software updates, and related testing.

• Suggest process enhancements that impact network asset quality and operational efficiency.

• Offer site survey assistance for OSP and ISP projects, as well as large space and power initiatives, and equipment deployments.

• Conduct site audits and resolve data discrepancies in collaboration with Network Surveillance and other teams.

• Aid in managing local construction vendors to ensure adherence to installation, repair, and maintenance MOPs, standards, quality, and cleanliness.

• Coordinate with LECs and other technicians to ensure timely installation, repair, and maintenance.

• Execute site surveys for network installations, augmentations, and decommissions.

• Assist in organizing site access, equipment staging, and associated tasks.

• Carry out additional duties as required.

⛳️ Requirements

• Associate's degree (A.A) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, along with 0 to 2 years of relevant experience and/or training; or a comparable combination of education and experience.

• Familiarity with data center and POP infrastructure, including OSP, ISP, interfacility cabling, fiber and copper distribution, AC/DC power systems, environmental controls, and the construction of relay racks, cabinets, and cages.

• Knowledge of installing and maintaining telecom/network equipment, such as DWDMs, backbone and management routers, IP switches, and optical and digital infrastructure.

• Understanding of splicing and working in manhole, vault, or handhole environments.

• Proficiency with telecommunications testing equipment, including microscopes, source and power meters, and OTDRs; experience with testing across SONET and Ethernet bandwidths.

• Awareness of telecommunications testing standards and procedures, which include wire mapping, bit error rate, power, delay, loss, reflectance, and dispersion.

• Knowledge of state and local regulatory standards, procedures, and permitting requirements.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with LEC and other telecom service provider technicians, landlords, electricians, construction operators, and non-technical end users.

• Capability to work autonomously, diagnose issues, and take suitable actions with minimal supervision.

• Experience with spreadsheets, workflow and project management applications, and administrative software applications.

• Understanding of how to utilize a Tier-1 ITSM platform.

• Ability to perform office-related tasks, navigate within an office environment, use a computer, and communicate effectively.
