Field Technician I

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nevada.

📋 Description

• Offer support to designated locations, including data centers, Points of Presence (POPs), and services at physical sites.

• Collaborate with network teams and local vendors for installation, repair, and maintenance tasks.

• Execute physical installation, repair, maintenance, and testing procedures.

• Assist in performing card additions or replacements, software updates, and related testing.

• Suggest process enhancements that impact network asset quality and operational efficiency.

• Provide site survey assistance for OSP and ISP projects, large space and power initiatives, and equipment deployments.

• Conduct site audits and resolve data discrepancies in conjunction with Network Surveillance and other teams.

• Support the management of local construction vendors to ensure adherence to MOPs, standards, quality, and cleanliness.

• Coordinate with LECs and other technicians for the facilitation of installation, repair, and maintenance activities.

• Conduct site surveys that support network builds, augmentations, and decommissioning efforts.

• Aid with site access, equipment staging, and related responsibilities.

• Carry out additional duties as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• Associate's degree (A.A) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, along with 0 to 2 years of relevant experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Familiarity with data center and POP infrastructure, including OSP, ISP, interfacility cabling, fiber and copper distribution, AC/DC power systems, environmental controls, and relay rack/cabinet/cage construction.

• Experience in installing and maintaining telecom/network equipment, such as DWDMs, backbone and management routers, IP switches, and optical and digital infrastructure.

• Knowledge of splicing and operations within manhole, vault, or handhole environments.

• Proficient in telecommunications testing equipment, including microscopes, source and power meters, and OTDRs; experience with SONET and Ethernet bandwidth testing.

• Understanding of telecommunications testing standards and procedures, including length, wire-mapping, bit error rate, power, delay, loss, reflectance, and dispersion.

• Awareness of state and local regulatory standards, procedures, and permitting requirements.

• Capacity to engage effectively with LECs, telecom service providers, landlords, electricians, construction operators, and non-technical end users.

• Ability to work autonomously, diagnose issues, and take suitable actions with minimal supervision.

• Proficient in using spreadsheets, workflow and project management software, and administrative applications.

• Familiarity with utilizing a Tier-1 ITSM platform.

• Capability to perform office-related tasks, navigate within an office environment, operate a computer, and communicate effectively.
