Field Technician I

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nevada.

📋 Description

• Offer assistance to designated sites, encompassing data centers, Points of Presence (POPs), and physical site services.

• Collaborate with network teams and local vendors for installation, repair, and maintenance tasks.

• Implement physical-layer rack and stack setups.

• Uphold quality standards at the designated data center and remote POP locations.

• Support physical installation, repair, maintenance, and testing operations.

• Aid in card additions or replacements, software updates, and related testing activities.

• Suggest improvements to processes that impact network asset quality and operational efficiency.

• Provide site survey assistance for OSP and ISP projects, large space and power initiatives, and equipment deployments.

• Conduct site audits and resolve data discrepancies in collaboration with Network Surveillance and other teams.

• Help manage local construction vendors to ensure adherence to MOPs, standards, quality, and cleanliness.

• Coordinate with LEC and other technicians to ensure timely installation, repair, and maintenance services.

• Conduct site surveys for network builds, augmentations, and decommissions.

• Assist with site access coordination, equipment staging, and related responsibilities.

• Execute other duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• An Associate's degree (A.A) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical institution, along with 0 to 2 years of relevant experience and/or training; or a comparable combination of education and experience.

• Understanding of data center and POP infrastructure, including OSP, ISP, interfacility cabling, fiber and copper distribution, AC/DC power systems, environmental controls, and relay rack/cabinet/cage construction.

• Experience with the installation and maintenance of telecom/network equipment, such as DWDMs, backbone and management routers, IP switches, and optical and digital infrastructure.

• Comprehension of splicing and operations within manhole, vault, or handhole environments.

• Familiarity with telecommunications testing equipment, including microscopes, source and power meters, and OTDRs; testing experience with SONET and Ethernet bandwidths.

• Knowledge of telecommunications testing standards and procedures, including wire-mapping, bit error rate, power, delay, loss, reflectance, and dispersion.

• Awareness of state and local regulatory standards, procedures, and permitting requirements.

• Capability to collaborate effectively with LEC and other telecom service provider technicians, landlords, electricians, construction operators, and non-technical end users.

• Ability to work independently, troubleshoot issues, and take appropriate actions with minimal supervision.

• Proficiency with spreadsheets, workflow and project management applications, and administrative software tools.

• Understanding of how to utilize a Tier-1 ITSM platform.

• Capacity to perform office-related tasks, navigate an office environment, use a computer, and communicate effectively.
