Field Technician I

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nevada.

📋 Description

• Offer assistance to designated data center and Point of Presence (POP) sites, as well as physical site services.

• Collaborate with network teams and local vendors for installation, maintenance, and repair tasks.

• Implement physical-layer rack and stack setups.

• Execute physical installation, repair, maintenance, and testing operations.

• Conduct card additions or replacements, software updates, and related testing.

• Suggest process enhancements that influence network asset quality and operational efficiency.

• Provide site survey assistance for OSP and ISP projects, along with significant space, power, or equipment deployments.

• Carry out site audits and resolve data discrepancies with Network Surveillance and other teams.

• Aid in managing local construction vendors to ensure adherence to installation, repair, and maintenance MOPs, standards, quality, and cleanliness.

• Coordinate with LEC and other technicians to ensure timely installation, maintenance, and repair.

• Conduct site surveys that support network builds, enhancements, or decommissions.

• Organize site access, equipment staging, and other related tasks.

• Travel as necessary.

• Perform additional duties as required.

⛳️ Requirements

• An Associate's degree (A.A) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, along with 0 to 2 years of relevant experience and/or training; or a comparable combination of education and experience.

• Familiarity with data center and POP infrastructure, encompassing OSP, ISP, interfacility cabling, fiber and copper distribution, AC/DC power systems, environmental controls, and relay rack/cabinet/cage construction.

• Experience with the installation and maintenance of telecom/network equipment, including DWDMs, backbone and management routers, IP switches, and both optical and digital infrastructures.

• Knowledge of splicing and experience working within manholes, vaults, or handholes.

• Proficiency with telecommunications testing equipment, such as microscopes, source and power meters, and OTDRs; experience in testing SONET and Ethernet bandwidths.

• Understanding of telecommunications testing standards and procedures, including length, wire-mapping, bit error rate, power, delay, loss, reflectance, and dispersion.

• Awareness of state and local regulatory standards, procedures, and permitting requirements.

• Ability to work collaboratively with LEC and other telecom service provider technicians, building landlords, electricians, construction operators, and non-technical end users.

• Capacity to work independently, diagnose issues, and take suitable actions with minimal supervision.

• Proficient in using spreadsheets, workflow and project management applications, and administrative software applications.

• Understanding of how to utilize a Tier-1 ITSM platform.

• Ability to perform office-related tasks, navigate within an office setting, utilize a computer, and communicate effectively.

• Capability to perform occasional repetitive wrist, hand, or finger movements as necessary.
