Field Technician

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nevada.

📋 Description

• Provide assistance to designated locations, which include data centers, Points of Presence (POPs), and physical site services.

• Collaborate with network teams and local vendors for installation, repair, and maintenance tasks.

• Implement physical-layer rack and stack setups.

• Conduct physical installation, repair, maintenance, and testing operations.

• Execute card additions or replacements, software upgrades, and associated testing procedures.

• Suggest process enhancements that impact network asset quality and operational efficiency.

• Offer site survey assistance for OSP and ISP projects, along with large space, power, and equipment installations.

• Conduct site audits and resolve data discrepancies in coordination with Network Surveillance and other departments.

• Assist in managing local construction vendors to ensure adherence to installation, repair, and maintenance MOPs, standards, quality, and cleanliness.

• Collaborate with LEC and other technicians to facilitate installation, repair, and maintenance processes.

• Carry out site surveys for network constructions, augmentations, and decommissioning efforts.

• Organize site access, equipment staging, and related responsibilities.

• Perform additional duties as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• An Associate's degree (A.A) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, along with 0 to 2 years of related experience and/or training; or a suitable combination of education and experience.

• Understanding of data center and POP infrastructure, including OSP, ISP, interfacility cabling, fiber and copper distribution, AC/DC power systems, environmental controls, and relay rack/cabinet/cage construction.

• Familiarity with the installation and maintenance of telecom/network equipment, such as DWDMs, backbone and management routers, IP switches, and optical and digital infrastructure.

• Knowledge of splicing techniques and the ability to operate within manhole, vault, or handhole environments.

• Proficiency with telecommunications testing equipment, including microscopes, source and power meters, and OTDRs; experience in testing SONET and Ethernet bandwidths.

• Understanding of telecommunications testing standards and procedures, such as length, wire-mapping, bit error rate, power, delay, loss, reflectance, and dispersion.

• Awareness of state and local regulatory standards, procedures, and permitting requirements.

• Capable of interacting with LECs, telecom service providers, landlords, electricians, construction operators, and non-technical end-users.

• Ability to work autonomously, troubleshoot issues, and take appropriate actions with minimal supervision.

• Experience with spreadsheets, workflow and project management applications, and administrative software tools.

• Familiarity with using a Tier-1 ITSM platform.

• Capability to perform office-related tasks that involve prolonged sitting or standing, navigate within an office environment, utilize a computer, and communicate effectively.
