Field Technician

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Execute grassland restoration and reconstruction initiatives in national parks throughout the Eastern United States, which includes managing invasive species, addressing woody encroachment, preparing sites, and planting restoration seed mixes.

• Coordinate daily fieldwork tasks with the Lead Field Technician.

• Relay project updates and requirements to the Lead Field Technician.

• Aid in collecting written, photographic, and GIS data for each project site.

• Contribute to the writing and editing of management plans for project sites.

• Review relevant materials and protocols.

• Engage in regular team meetings and SGI staff gatherings.

⛳️ Requirements

• Familiarity with grassland plant species and community types found in the Southeastern and/or Mid-Atlantic United States.

• Understanding of grassland restoration and reconstruction methodologies.

• Knowledge of invasive species management techniques.

• Quick learner with the ability to adapt to challenges.

• Capability to collaborate effectively as part of a team.

• Willingness to work a non-standard schedule, which includes 8 consecutive days followed by 6 days off, starting work at 5 am, or occasionally working late hours.

• Possession of a valid driver’s license and experience operating various vehicles and ATVs, including 4WD.

• Must be able to navigate rugged terrain in diverse landscapes.

• Readiness and capability to work in harsh and changing environmental conditions, such as high temperatures, insect-laden areas, and rain.

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

• Prior experience in grassland restoration and/or land management is highly preferred.

• Positive attitude and eagerness to learn.

• Strong organizational and task-management abilities.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

• Proficient in interacting and collaborating with a diverse range of individuals.
