Field Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Travel to customer sites, test ranges, and program locations to install, configure, operate, and maintain sensor, software, and autonomous platform systems.

• Perform pre-deployment checks and prepare field kits, hardware, and software builds to ensure mission readiness.

• Diagnose and resolve software-related issues in deployed systems, including embedded software, ATAK-integrated applications, and AI/ML-enabled sensor pipelines.

• Troubleshoot and fix mechanical, electromechanical, and hardware problems, executing component-level repairs and adjustments while in the field.

• Act as the on-site technical liaison for customers and government program personnel.

• Document field issues and performance results; communicate findings back to Software and Mechanical Engineering teams.

• Manage issues from inception to final delivery and represent OKSI engineering directly to system users.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.

• At least 4 years of combined experience in software and mechanical engineering, including roles in field service, test & evaluation, or military UAS/sensor systems.

• Proficiency in at least one programming language: Python, C++, C, or MATLAB is required.

• Familiarity with CAD tools such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.

• Working knowledge of Linux-based systems and command-line operations.

• Capability to obtain a Department of Defense Secret clearance.

• Willingness and ability to travel frequently (60–70%), including to challenging field conditions.

• Must possess a valid driver's license.

• Availability to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.

• Preferred: Experience in supporting defense-related systems, UAS platforms, sensors, or AI-enabled technologies.

• Preferred: Previous experience as a field service engineer or test engineer.

• Preferred: Knowledge of ATAK plugin architecture/APIs or integration of computer vision/ML models.

• Preferred: Experience with ITAR/export control regulations.

• ITAR eligibility: U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or eligible to obtain necessary U.S. Department of State authorizations.
