This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nebraska.
• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair Thermo Fisher Scientific Trace Elemental and Chromatography instrumentation, which includes ICP-OES, ICP-MS, IC, and HPLC systems.
• Diagnose intricate electrical, mechanical, fluidic, vacuum, software, and application-related instrument challenges and identify effective solutions.
• Conduct preventative maintenance, qualification, system upgrades, and other field service tasks in accordance with established procedures and quality standards.
• Offer technical support and customer service while fostering professional relationships with clients.
• Utilize analytical instrumentation and laboratory-application expertise to comprehend customer workflows and troubleshoot system performance issues.
• Independently manage service activities across a geographically diverse territory while balancing customer needs, travel obligations, and scheduled maintenance.
• Document service activities, troubleshooting results, parts usage, and completed repairs in the company's service management systems.
• Interpret technical documentation, schematics, service procedures, and instrument diagnostics.
• Assist customers with instrument operation, routine maintenance, and best practices.
• Collaborate with technical support, applications specialists, sales, and other Field Service Engineers to address complex customer challenges.
• Maintain assigned tools, test equipment, service parts, and company resources diligently.
• Adhere to Thermo Fisher Scientific's safety, quality, regulatory, and customer-site protocols.
• Respond promptly to customer needs to minimize instrument downtime.
• Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction and professionalism.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Electronics, Physics, or a related scientific or technical discipline is required.
• A minimum of 2 years of relevant hands-on technical experience in installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, or repairing complex analytical, scientific, laboratory, or similar electromechanical equipment.
• Exceptional electrical, mechanical, and system-level troubleshooting abilities.
• Capability to systematically diagnose complex instrument issues and pinpoint failures down to the component or subsystem level.
• Familiarity with fluidics, electronics, vacuum systems, pumps, valves, detectors, high-voltage systems, computer-controlled instrumentation, and related technologies is advantageous.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to work autonomously in the field.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a dedicated focus on delivering outstanding customer service.
• Ability to convey technical information to customers with varying levels of expertise and provide effective training and support on instrument operation and basic maintenance.
• Competency in managing schedules, prioritizing competing customer demands, and organizing workload across a large geographic territory.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and capable of effectively utilizing service management and diagnostic software.
• Willingness to travel frequently overnight, approximately 50% of working nights, based on customer demands and service activities.
• Travel extensively throughout the territory by car, with occasional air travel as necessary.
• Ability to adapt to customer needs and scheduling changes with limited notice.
• Capacity to lift and transport equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work in laboratory, industrial, and other customer environments while adhering to applicable safety requirements.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship, now or in the future.
• Must successfully pass a comprehensive background check and drug screening.
