Field Service Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee on-site installation, startup, and commissioning of oil-filled and dry-type power and distribution transformers.

• Execute acceptance testing according to IEEE/IEC/NEMA standards and customer specifications before energization.

• Assist in energization planning, outage coordination, and site readiness evaluations.

• Analyze single-line diagrams, winding/vector diagrams, control schematics, and equipment nameplate information.

• Conduct TTR, winding resistance, insulation resistance/polarization index, power factor/dissipation factor, and SFRA testing.

• Perform DGA sampling and analyze oil testing results.

• Carry out relay and protection testing.

• Diagnose and troubleshoot OLTC/LTC mechanisms, cooling systems, and control/monitoring equipment.

• Document testing outcomes and create customer-ready technical reports.

• Implement troubleshooting, corrective maintenance, repairs, retrofits, and end-of-life services.

• Identify potential equipment failures and suggest corrective or preventive measures.

• Assist with warranty investigations, root cause analysis, and field failure documentation.

• Respond to emergency service requests, including after-hours and weekend support.

• Act as Giga Energy's primary on-site technical representative and foster customer relationships.

• Relay job status, technical findings, and recommendations to customers, contractors, and internal stakeholders.

• Prepare material lists, technical quotations, and scopes of work.

• Collaborate with site engineers, contractors, and internal Engineering/Quality teams.

• Adhere to OSHA, NFPA 70E, EHS, LOTO, and permit-to-work protocols.

• Maintain certifications and engage in ongoing safety training.

• Keep service reports, timesheets, expense reports, and job status updates up to date.

• Contribute field observations to NCR/SCAR and continuous improvement initiatives.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline — OR equivalent experience (military electrical/electronics training, associate degree plus relevant field experience).

• A minimum of 2 years of hands-on field experience with power/distribution transformers, switchgear, or related power delivery equipment (entry-level candidates with substantial internships/training will be considered).

• Proficient knowledge of transformer testing methods: TTR, insulation resistance, DGA/oil analysis, and power factor testing.

• Capable of reading and interpreting electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and winding/vector diagrams.

• Willingness and capability to travel 50–75%, including to domestic and potentially international locations.

• Valid driver’s license and ability to maintain/obtain a passport.

• Physical capability to lift/move equipment components and operate in industrial field environments (heights, confined spaces, outdoor settings).
