Field Equipment Inspector

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mississippi.

📋 Description

• Travel to client sites to conduct scheduled assessments of Columbia Industries equipment.

• Carry out inspections following established company protocols, checklists, and documentation.

• Perform visual and functional evaluations of mechanical, hydraulic, structural, electrical, safety, and wear-related components.

• Identify and thoroughly document components that are worn, damaged, leaking, loose, missing, or deteriorating.

• Consistently and objectively apply Red, Yellow, and Green condition classifications.

• Collect photographs, measurements, notes, and relevant information to support inspection findings.

• Escalate issues that fall outside the inspection scope to Field Service or Engineering teams.

• Promptly complete comprehensive and accurate inspection reports following customer visits.

• Associate photographs and written findings with the corresponding equipment component or inspection item.

• Submit reports within established turnaround times and maintain well-organized inspection records.

• Represent Columbia Industries in a professional manner at customer sites and coordinate equipment access with client contacts.

• Communicate factual observations without exaggerating findings or making unsupported commitments.

• Direct inquiries regarding pricing, parts availability, repair proposals, and commercial matters to Aftermarket or Sales.

• Relay urgent Red findings and recurring equipment issues to Aftermarket, Quality, Engineering, or Field Service teams.

• Travel both domestically and internationally as needed, including overnight stays, extended trips, air travel, and rental vehicles.

• Occasionally visit Columbia Industries' Starkville, Mississippi headquarters for training, meetings, or equipment familiarization.

⛳️ Requirements

• A high school diploma or GED is required.

• A minimum of 3 years of experience in roles such as industrial mechanic, heavy equipment mechanic, maintenance technician, field service technician, or similar hands-on mechanical positions.

• Proficient understanding of mechanical and hydraulic systems, with the ability to recognize common wear, damage, leakage, and component deterioration.

• Capability to adhere to detailed inspection protocols and consistently execute repetitive inspection tasks.

• Ability to interpret equipment documentation and recognize component identification, along with basic mechanical or hydraulic information as necessary.

• Basic proficiency in computer and tablet use for report completion, photography, and field documentation submission.

• Professional communication abilities adequate for effective interaction with customer personnel.

• A valid driver's license and the ability to fulfill company travel requirements.

• Preferred qualifications include technical school, industrial maintenance, diesel, heavy equipment, or mechanical training.

• Experience with heavy industrial equipment, hydraulic power units, cylinders, structural components, bearings, pins, hoses, fittings, and related wear components is preferred.

• Previous experience in equipment inspection, preventive maintenance, or condition assessment is preferred.

• OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification is preferred.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience in completing electronic field reports is preferred.

• Ability to lift and carry inspection tools or equipment weighing up to 35 pounds.

• Capability to work in industrial and outdoor settings, including exposure to heavy machinery, moving equipment, noise, dirt, dust, and varying weather conditions.

• Ability to utilize appropriate personal protective equipment and comply with customer-specific safety protocols.
