Field Director – Oncology

📋 Description

• Lead a regional team of GU Medical Science Liaisons, providing scientific, clinical, research, and educational support to healthcare professionals and internal stakeholders.

• Collaborate with the MSL Head to establish regional strategies, priorities, objectives, and execution plans.

• Conduct regular strategy reviews with MSL direct reports utilizing data, insights, AI tools, and performance trends.

• Offer support, coaching, feedback, development opportunities, field observations, and career planning for direct reports.

• Implement field Medical Affairs programs, which include product launches, proactive initiatives, and engagement with healthcare professionals.

• Ensure MSLs exhibit scientific expertise, effective presentation skills, professional credibility, stakeholder influence, adaptive communication, and scientific storytelling.

• Remain updated on scientific information and disease states, coaching the team as needed.

• Ensure the collection, analysis, and communication of high-quality Medical Insights to guide strategy, evidence generation, and lifecycle planning.

• Lead change through resilience, accountability, professionalism, performance, and integrity.

• Coordinate efforts with Medical Affairs, Scientific Affairs, and cross-functional partners.

• Identify solutions and propose actions to the MSL Head using critical thinking, risk assessment, and sound judgment.

• Oversee regulatory and healthcare compliance, ethical decision-making, accountability, and integrity.

• Manage the regional MSL team in alignment with business plans and company directives.

• Enhance performance through field visits and one-on-ones; supervise training, development, capacity, field activity, metrics, and territory planning.

• Recruit, retain, and cultivate a diverse, high-performing team while providing succession planning.

• Complete administrative tasks, including expense approvals, metric reports, compliance documentation, and operational reporting.

• Communicate team accomplishments, insights, and impacts to internal partners and leadership.

• Collaborate with field partners and engage in business planning across various brands and Medical Affairs.

• Develop and implement regional and organized-provider strategies informed by field insights from KOLs and specialists.

• Lead scientific projects and programs, converting field intelligence into strategic recommendations.

• Formulate field scientific strategies that align with medical priorities and lifecycle needs.

• Participate in or lead cross-functional and company-wide initiatives.

• Establish scalable processes that enhance alignment, efficiency, compliance, and cross-functional execution.


⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of a master’s degree is required.

• PharmD, PhD, or MD is highly preferred.

• At least 8 years of relevant experience is required.

• A minimum of 4 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry is required.

• At least 2 years of experience as an MSL or in a similar role is required.

• Clinical/research experience is preferred.

• Experience related to therapeutic areas is preferred.

• Previous experience managing people is preferred.

• Proficient in data gathering and analysis, clinical expertise, problem-solving, interpersonal influence, cross-functional collaboration, strategic thinking, and competitive landscape analysis.

• Must reside in the assigned South Central region and be near an airport.

• Ability to travel regionally approximately 60%, including overnight trips, national scientific congresses, and strategic/scientific meetings at the corporate offices in Horsham, PA/Titusville, NJ.

• Valid US driver’s license is required.

• Demonstrated commitment to learning emerging technologies, including AI.

• Experience in developing team AI literacy and confidence, promoting trusted and responsible AI use, and exercising sound judgment.
