Federal Process Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Plan, develop, and implement process engineering initiatives for projects in industrial, manufacturing, energy, life sciences, and advanced technology sectors, catering to federal clients.

• Assess production, manufacturing, utility, chemical, and industrial processes to enhance safety, efficiency, reliability, and sustainability.

• Create process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, heat and material balances, and detailed process narratives.

• Conduct mass and energy balances, hydraulic calculations, and equipment sizing tasks.

• Draft equipment specifications, process data sheets, and documents to support procurement activities.

• Assist in process hazard analyses, HAZOP studies, safety reviews, and regulatory compliance evaluations.

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams.

• Facilitate facility planning, development of process layouts, utility coordination, and operational readiness efforts.

• Engage in client meetings, technical reviews, and project presentations.

• Provide support during construction, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting phases.

• Contribute to proposal development, scope definition, budgeting, and project planning activities.

• Mentor junior engineers and offer technical advice.

• Evaluate existing industrial processes, implement commercial technologies, and automate process steps to maximize throughput while ensuring safety and quality standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering with substantial process engineering experience, industrial engineering with relevant process knowledge, or a closely related engineering field.

• 5–10 years of progressively responsible experience in process engineering.

• Experience in supporting facilities in industrial, manufacturing, chemical, energy, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, semiconductor, or advanced technology sectors.

• Proven experience working with federal clients or major defense contractors.

• Demonstrated ability to produce engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, and design documents.

• Credentials including one or more of the following: Professional Engineer (PE) license, Certified Process Safety Professional (CCPSC), Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt, Project Management Professional (PMP), or ISA Certified Automation Professional (CAP).

• Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams.

• Familiarity with EPC, design-build, or federal government projects.

• Knowledge of process automation and controls integration.

• Experience in supporting construction, commissioning, and startup activities.

• Proficient in conducting process safety analyses and risk assessments.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Excel-based engineering calculations, AutoCAD or AutoCAD Plant 3D, Bluebeam Revu, and advanced modeling, simulation, and analytical software.

• Experience leading small engineering task teams or discipline-specific work packages.

• Ability to function effectively in team settings across field, hybrid, and office environments.

• Capacity to perform site visits and field investigations, occasionally lift up to 25 pounds, and wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).
