This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Conduct ongoing bookkeeping and account reconciliations utilizing QuickBooks Online.
• Examine and classify transactions, investigating any unidentified or unusual financial activities.
• Analyze general ledgers to identify missing, inaccurate, or potentially misclassified transactions.
• Prepare suggested journal entries and accounting adjustments for senior management review.
• Maintain charts of accounts and supporting financial schedules.
• Generate preliminary profit and loss statements, balance sheets, general ledgers, and other financial reports.
• Coordinate the collection, organization, and submission of tax preparation and tax planning information.
• Organize tax documents and supporting materials.
• Maintain K-1s, investment statements, closing documents, entity records, and other tax-related documentation.
• Collaborate with tax professionals to address outstanding information requests.
• Sustain information supporting client balance sheets, net-worth statements, and family-office reporting.
• Track financial data across closely held businesses, real estate, private investments, and personal assets and liabilities.
• Aid in mapping entity ownership and financial relationships across LLCs, partnerships, S corporations, holding companies, trusts, and other structures.
• Ensure accurate accounting and tax records within Canopy and other firm systems.
• Directly communicate with clients to request documentation, clarify transactions, and resolve accounting inquiries.
• Schedule and facilitate regular bookkeeping, accounting, and documentation meetings.
• Oversee daily activities within the bookkeeping inbox.
• Collaborate with Client Services, senior accounting professionals, and tax experts to ensure timely deliverables.
• Proactively escalate obstacles and maintain responsiveness to client and internal requests.
• A minimum of 2 years of practical experience in QuickBooks bookkeeping/accounting.
• Proficiency in reconciliations, transaction categorization, general ledger analysis, and maintaining financial records.
• Experience working with individuals and/or small to mid-sized businesses with significant financial activity.
• Strong grasp of fundamental accounting principles and financial statements.
• Excellent organizational skills and the capability to independently drive tasks to completion.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for professional interactions with sophisticated clients.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to investigate and resolve financial inquiries prior to escalating or requesting client information.
• Availability to dedicate approximately 15–25 hours per week, including availability during standard business hours.
• Access to confidential client financial information and completion of necessary background screening.
• Preferred: experience in tax preparation, tax accounting, or private-client tax matters.
• Preferred: experience working with high-net-worth individuals, entrepreneurs, or closely held businesses.
• Preferred: background in family office, CPA firm, outsourced accounting/CAS, private-client tax, or similar professional services.
• Preferred: CPA or Enrolled Agent credential, or progress toward one.
• Preferred: graduate or professional education in accounting, taxation, finance, business, law, or a related field.
