Experienced Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Belgium.

📋 Description

• Create high-quality applications for clients based in Belgium and internationally.

• Simplify complex systems and collaborate with legacy code and existing teams.

• Work alongside hybrid client teams.

• Navigate business challenges from stakeholder discussions through ideation to final release.

• Design products and deliver small increments regularly.

• Make architectural, infrastructural, and technological decisions that align with the problem, including scalability considerations.

• Establish and uphold quality standards, delivery pipelines, feature flags, and observability frameworks.

• Transform recurring tasks into reusable, version-controlled skills and tools for agents.

• Identify and document hidden business logic within undocumented legacy code.

• Gradually migrate codebases without disrupting business operations.

• Minimize technical debt and improve codebases beyond their original state.

• Guide and mentor peers while sharing insights through blogs, presentations, and group discussions.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must reside and work between the UTC-01:00 and UTC+03:00 time zones.

• In-depth expertise in one or more core technology stacks: PHP (primarily Laravel), Python (Django, FastAPI), or JavaScript (React, Next.js).

• Proficient in back-end, front-end, and infrastructure work.

• Capable of addressing business problems, engaging with stakeholders, and taking ownership of solutions from ideation to release.

• Skilled in writing modern, high-quality code and directing agentic coding tools.

• Experienced in making architectural, infrastructural, and technological decisions, including at scale.

• Familiarity with building and maintaining testing frameworks, static analysis, CI/CD processes, feature flags, and observability foundations.

• Background in software archaeology and working with undocumented legacy code.

• Able to incrementally migrate codebases without halting business activities.

• Experience in product/SaaS startup and scale-up environments is advantageous.

• Data engineering expertise is a plus.

• Contributions to public knowledge sharing and open-source initiatives are considered a bonus.
