Executive Director, Therapeutic Strategy Leader

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in China.

📋 Description

• Contribute to the global strategy, business plans, and company policies related to medical, safety, and therapeutic business development throughout the APAC region.

• Facilitate engagement with executive-level and medical customers, collaborating with local and regional biotech and biopharma sponsors.

• Build and nurture relationships with customer medical and executive representatives to uncover therapeutic business development opportunities.

• Work in partnership with Strategy, Operations, and Business Development teams to align Fortrea's expertise with sponsor opportunities, creating operational strategies for trials.

• Act as the local executive sponsor for Fortrea as needed.

• Lead initiatives for process and continuous improvement within Biopharma Medical and Scientific projects.

• Identify and implement integrated development opportunities across different business units.

• Enhance Fortrea’s visibility through publications, presentations, and participation in panels at industry and scientific meetings.

• Showcase medical/scientific capabilities to clients and cultivate high-level client relationships, including participation in Partnership Alliance governance committees.

• Collaborate with Marketing, Inside Sales, and Business Development on client opportunities and the technical positioning of new services.

• Develop and resolve issues related to client and investigator relationships.

• Spearhead the development of KOL/investigator networks and build consultant networks.

• Direct the development of Medical and Scientific Disease Area Strategies across various therapeutic domains.

• Ensure the delivery of high-quality contributions to proposals, bid defenses, and proactive client interactions.

• Mentor and assist in the supervision of medical directors, section heads, operations and strategy directors, and others.

• Approve personal/vacation time and professional meeting requests.

• Provide leadership, vision, and strategic direction for the therapeutic area.

• Act as an ambassador for process improvement and guide long-term strategic client relationships.

• Offer scientific strategic leadership and clinical/medical expertise to Fortrea departments and project teams.

• Ensure that staff can adequately meet client safety-monitoring requirements.

• Oversee the development of training modules and provide training related to the therapeutic area.

• Engage in training concerning drug development and good clinical practice guidelines.

• Develop, review, and update protocols, case report forms, training materials, project tools, analysis plans, clinical trial reports, and new drug applications.

• Assist in the preparation of bid-defense and customer engagement materials.

• Participate in sponsor consulting, feasibility discussions, and project risk assessment activities.

• Interact with both inter-departmental and external consultants.

• Undertake other assigned responsibilities.


⛳️ Requirements

• MDE with residency training (or equivalent specialization) and substantial knowledge of drug development, along with extensive experience in global clinical research project leadership and management within the pharmaceutical industry.

• Relevant and equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of educational requirements.

• A minimum of 15 years in global drug development (pharmaceutical, biotech, or CRO).

• Acknowledged as a clinical research leader within and across various therapeutic areas.

• Proven strategic thinking, focus, and problem-solving abilities.

• Significant leadership and management experience at organizational, cross-functional, and project portfolio management levels.

• Comprehensive knowledge of integrated global drug development.

• Preferred: MD who has completed a specialty fellowship, with global pharma managerial and organizational leadership experience at a portfolio level across multiple therapeutic and functional areas.

• Preferred: 3 or more years in clinical/academic practice.

• Willingness to travel internationally occasionally and locally within the region.

• Approximately 30% local travel expected, with 80% of that travel requiring overnight stays.
