This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama.
• Deliver technical assistance for Aviation Environmental Control Systems to the Army Maneuver Air Directorate and Propulsion Branch.
• Evaluate test plans, test reports, and analyses for compliance with specifications and qualifications.
• Assess quality escapes and Manufacturing Review Boards, documenting airworthiness issues.
• Suggest requirements coverage, success criteria, risks, corrective measures, and enhancements for test plans and reports.
• Assist in test witnessing, evaluation of test results, post-test inspections, and recommendations regarding hardware condition and performance.
• Review technical updates to manuals and maintenance procedures.
• Engage in program and design reviews as well as technical meetings.
• Aid in failure investigations and the validation/verification of procedures.
• Provide technical and project engineering support for Environmental Control improvements under the Component Improvement Program.
• Assist with depot and repair activities, Maintenance and Overhaul plans, hardware repair reviews, and Product Verification Audits.
• Support alternate source evaluations, intercept actions, and engineering requests from the Defense Logistics Agency.
• Offer technical assistance for Condition Based Maintenance and Cost Wise Readiness initiatives.
• Contribute technical insights on Foreign Military Sales support.
• Document processes and methodologies for designing Environmental Control Systems and airworthiness qualifications.
• Create memorandums, briefings, recommendations, and analyses for Government use.
• Conduct thermal, risk, reliability, data reduction, and performance analyses, providing corrective action recommendations.
• Offer engineering support for Environmental Control Systems applied to helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles, and fixed-wing platforms.
• 15 years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, 13 years with a master’s degree, 10 years with a PhD or Juris Doctorate, or a high school diploma/equivalent with 19 years of relevant experience.
• Preferred: 18 years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree, 16 years with a master’s, or 14 years with a PhD or Juris Doctorate.
• Capability to document processes and methodologies for Environmental Control System design and airworthiness qualifications.
• Proficiency in creating memorandums and briefings using MS Word and PowerPoint.
• Skill in performing data reduction and analysis to assess Environmental Control and component performance.
• Ability to provide written recommendations regarding the serviceability and airworthiness criteria of Environmental Control Systems.
• Competence in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and parts lists.
• Ability to compose clear and concise memorandums.
• Experience in providing engineering support for helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles, and fixed-wing platforms.
• Documented working knowledge of thermal analyses.
• Experience in using or developing software tools for steady-state and transient thermodynamic design and analysis.
• Experience with calculations for heating, cooling, and dehumidification across various systems including air, water, hydraulic fluid, gas, vapor, and steam.
• Documented experience conducting risk analysis, reliability analysis, data reduction, and performance assessments.
• Must be a US Citizen.
• Must possess a DoD Secret Security Clearance.
• Must be willing to travel up to 20% of the time.
• Preferred: Working knowledge of DoD software programs such as PDREP, TAMMS-A/MCDS, SRD Task Tracking System, and ETMs/IETMs.
• Preferred: Experience in conducting Fault Tree Analysis.
• Knowledge or experience in writing and reviewing Aeronautical Design Specifications such as ADS-50 and AMACC is a plus.
• Familiarity with MIL-STD-810 Environmental Testing requirements.
• Experience in writing and reviewing AWIS, SSRAs, System Safety Management Plans, FMECA/FEMA, and Safety Design Requirements Definitions.
• Preferred education/experience combinations include Bachelor of Science in Engineering with 25 years, Master of Science in Engineering with 23 years, or PhD in Engineering with 21 years.
• May require working in office, industrial, shipboard, or laboratory environments.
