Entry Level Software Engineer – Site Reliability

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with a globally dispersed team located in various countries.

• Work alongside engineers to support the development of new features and services.

• Contribute to production code by writing and deploying code with the team.

• Create tools to monitor site stability and performance.

• Maintain the reliability and scalability of infrastructure while upholding platform Service Level Objectives (SLOs).

• Diagnose site issues utilizing Splunk, Prometheus, and OpenTelemetry.

• Enhance skills in Python, Puppet, Git, Jenkins, and Terraform to automate operations and utilize AI tools.

• Design custom tools when standard solutions do not scale, and contribute to open source projects upstream.

• Enable product teams and developers through automation and self-service capabilities.

• Engage in light on-call rotations with geographically distributed follow-the-sun SRE teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• No prior professional experience in SRE or infrastructure is necessary.

• Strong foundational backend knowledge and coding abilities.

• Proficient spoken and written communication skills in English are required for this role.

• Familiarity with Linux is essential; while Yelp utilizes Ubuntu, any distribution is acceptable.

• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Python, Ruby, Go, Java, or C++.

• Understanding of public cloud platforms is important; Yelp uses AWS, but experience with Azure or GCP is also acceptable.

• A passion for learning, curiosity, and a proactive approach are essential.
