
Entry Level Site Reliability Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Collaborate extensively with engineers to facilitate the development of new features and services.
• Create tools to monitor the stability and performance of the site.
• Assist in ensuring the reliability and scalability of infrastructure while adhering to platform SLOs.
• Diagnose site issues utilizing Splunk, Prometheus, and OpenTelemetry.
• Manage and operate essential datastores, including Cassandra and MySQL.
• Automate infrastructure processes using Python, Puppet, Git, Jenkins, Terraform, and AI tools.
• Design custom tools when existing solutions do not fulfill Yelp's scale requirements.
• Contribute to open source projects upstream.
• Engage in light on-call rotations with geographically distributed SRE teams for continuous support.
• Enable product teams and developers through automation of infrastructure and self-service capabilities.
• Must reside in the United Kingdom.
• Familiarity with Linux; while Ubuntu is used, any distribution is acceptable.
• Proficiency in a modern programming language such as Python, Ruby, Go, Java, or C++.
• Experience with or interest in MySQL and/or Cassandra.
• Practical experience with public cloud platforms; AWS is utilized, with Azure/GCP also being acceptable.
• Solid background in Infrastructure as Code and Configuration Management, using tools such as Terraform, Puppet, or Ansible.
• Relevant experience in Linux containerization and orchestration, such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Understanding of TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, containerization, workload orchestration, datastores, or streaming technologies.
• Familiarity with monitoring concepts and best practices for performance, reliability, and security.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.
• Willingness to ask questions, take initiative, and learn continuously.
