Enterprise Coding Audit and Education Supervisor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Supervise hospital or professional coding teams and support the management with daily departmental operations related to reimbursement, coding, abstracting, productivity, quality, and education.

• Assist in the implementation and facilitation of medical coding and abstracting, auditing, monitoring, and education for physicians and coders across existing and new clinics, locations, and hospitals.

• Ensure adherence to federal and state healthcare coding regulations, administrative requirements, and guidance.

• Maintain coding backlogs, work queues, and charge lag within acceptable limits.

• Serve as an expert coding resource for coders, providers, revenue cycle teams, specialty groups, and meetings.

• Oversee coding personnel, including interviewing, hiring, coaching, counseling, disciplinary actions, and conducting performance evaluations in collaboration with management.

• Develop and sustain coding policies, procedures, and training materials.

• Identify budgetary requirements and uphold fiscal responsibility.

• Conduct or supervise internal and external audits of medical record documentation, coding, and billing compliance.

• Analyze and resolve issues that impact coding and billing processes.

• Extract, analyze, and report data to management effectively.

• Collaborate with vendors and provide input on and test information systems.

• Assist with coding tasks as needed.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.

• Current HIM/Coding Certification through ONE of the following: American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).

• Five (5) years of experience in medical coding.

• An Associate's degree or higher in Health Information Management or a related field (preferred).

• Previous clinical experience as an RN, LPN, or Medical Assistant (highly desirable).

• Extensive knowledge in ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, MS-DRG, HCC, and APR-DRG assignment, hospital supervisory roles, multi-specialty coding, E&M coding, procedural/surgical coding, and governmental billing and coding regulations including the Teaching Physician Guidelines (preferred).

• Previous experience in supervisory or project management roles (preferred).

• Seven (7) years of medical coding experience (preferred).

• Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

• Knowledge of provider healthcare compliance, revenue cycle operations, and auditing techniques.

• Ability to mentor, educate, and train others effectively.

• Capacity to ensure quality and productivity standards.

• Ability to manage high-stress and critical situations with composure and professionalism.

• Capability to maintain focus and accuracy amid frequent interruptions.
