Engineering Manager – Virtual Appliance Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Lead and expand the software engineering team responsible for SailPoint’s customer-deployed virtual appliance.

• Take ownership of engineering execution and collaborate closely with Product Management on the strategic roadmap.

• Mentor engineers, evaluate architectural proposals, adjust sprint priorities, coordinate releases and incident follow-ups, and communicate progress and risks related to the roadmap.

• Provide technical expertise on Linux, virtualization, containerization, and customer-deployed software.

• Cultivate the team’s Scrum practices around a consistent two-week sprint cadence while addressing urgent customer and operational needs.

• Advocate for the responsible integration of modern AI and LLM capabilities to enhance engineering effectiveness, quality, decision-making, and business outcomes.

• Manage the entire lifecycle of the virtual appliance, encompassing architecture, development, distribution, installation, upgrades, patching, compatibility, vulnerability remediation, diagnostics, reliability, and incident response.

• Foster trusted relationships with team members and cross-functional partners.

• Evaluate delivery practices, staffing requirements, immediate priorities, and technical risks.

• Oversee engineering execution, team development, delivery reporting, dependency management, and risk communication.

• Establish practices for backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives, and visible progress tracking against commitments.

• Define and implement hiring and team development strategies.

• Enhance platform stability, supportability, delivery predictability, production ownership, incident response, vulnerability remediation, and reliability.

• Introduce practical, responsible AI-assisted workflows.

• Develop and execute a multi-quarter technical strategy for platform modernization and architectural evolution.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of professional software engineering experience, including more than 5 years in managing and developing software engineers.

• Demonstrated experience leading teams that develop customer-installed applications, virtual appliances, connectors, gateways, or similar software deployed in customer-managed settings.

• Experience in creating software that securely connects customer environments with cloud-based SaaS services.

• Strong technical proficiency in Linux, virtualization, and containerization, with the capability to read and comprehend code and contribute effectively to architectural and design discussions.

• Experience managing the lifecycle of customer-deployed software, including distribution, upgrades, patching, compatibility, diagnostics, vulnerability remediation, and incident response.

• Proven track record of implementing and enhancing Agile/Scrum practices to ensure predictable delivery while addressing urgent needs effectively.

• Experience in hiring, mentoring, managing performance, and supporting the career growth of engineers.

• Exceptional planning, reporting, communication, and cross-functional coordination abilities.

• Experience leading distributed teams and collaborating effectively across different time zones.

• Hands-on proficiency with modern AI and LLM tools, including experience utilizing reusable skills and agents to achieve engineering and business objectives, along with sound judgment on the application of agents, skills, or conversational assistants.

• A robust product, customer, security, and reliability orientation.

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience.
