This is a fully remote position, open to applicants anywhere in the world.
• Lead the Billing engineering team at Supabase.
• Foster a strong, trusting team culture in a remote-first, globally distributed setting.
• Conduct one-on-one meetings, manage performance, facilitate career development, and oversee onboarding for direct reports.
• Mentor engineers working on backend application code, data pipelines, external integrations, and operational workflows.
• Establish enduring ownership of essential billing knowledge, access, and incident response.
• Manage personnel administration, including leave and time-off requests.
• Oversee the Billing hiring strategy and act as Hiring Manager and initial interviewer.
• Collaborate with Talent Acquisition to source, interview, and secure candidates.
• Contribute to headcount planning, organizational design, and the development of engineering leadership.
• Direct the Billing roadmap and project management in Linear.
• Balance new pricing and product features with accuracy, resilience, supportability, and investments in technical debt.
• Manage workflow intake and handle Slack triage.
• Provide weekly updates and ensure alignment among stakeholders.
• Highlight risks, dependencies, trade-offs, and concerns related to revenue or customer impact to leadership.
• Train as and fulfill the role of Incident Commander.
• Lead incident coordination, resolution, customer impact assessments, post-incident follow-ups, and conduct blameless post-incident reviews.
• Engage in architecture and design discussions, offering sound technical reasoning to challenge plans.
• Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience.
• At least 3 years of experience managing remote engineering teams.
• Proven experience leading a billing engineering team within a cloud, SaaS, or developer tools organization.
• Expertise in managing remote, globally distributed teams across varying time zones.
• Technical credibility with engineers involved in developing complex systems.
• A genuine enthusiasm for people management.
• Proven ability to cultivate psychological safety and a culture of feedback.
• A history of effective performance management, including handling difficult conversations.
• Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to implement structured approaches.
• Excellent communication and strong writing skills.
• Collaborative, low-ego, and adaptable working style.
• Familiarity with subscription lifecycle and monetization strategies.
• Experience managing usage-based billing on a large scale.
• Practical experience with Stripe, Orb, or similar billing service providers.
• Knowledge of payment and billing provider integrations, APIs, webhooks, invoice lifecycle, payment failures, event ingestion, sync engines, rate limits, provider SLAs, and outage degradation.
• Experience with entitlements and pricing enforcement.
• Ability to collaborate with Finance, Data, Product, Support, Sales/RevOps, and Partnerships on billing operations.
