Engineering Manager – Hands-On, Java

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Brazil.

📋 Description

• Develop and sustain backend applications and microservices utilizing Java, Spring, and Spring Boot.

• Take ownership of technical choices regarding architecture and system design.

• Produce production-ready code and engage in code reviews.

• Troubleshoot and enhance performance, reliability, and scalability.

• Collaborate across databases, cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, and DevOps.

• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to enhance productivity and code quality.

• Oversee planning, prioritization, delivery, and resolution of obstacles for a small engineering team.

• Offer technical mentorship, guidance, and feedback.

• Serve as the primary technical point of contact for the client on a daily basis.

• Actively communicate updates, risks, priorities, and dependencies.

• Convert client requirements into actionable tasks while aligning the client, team, and Space Inch.

⛳️ Requirements

• 1–2+ years of practical engineering leadership experience managing a small team.

• 7+ years of professional experience in software development.

• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Java, Spring, and Spring Boot.

• Solid fundamentals in backend engineering and software architecture.

• Proven experience in building and maintaining production systems and microservices.

• Strong expertise with relational databases, especially PostgreSQL.

• Proficient in Docker and cloud environments.

• Familiar with CI/CD, Kubernetes, and contemporary cloud infrastructure.

• Able to manage the complete software development lifecycle from design to production.

• Experience in mentoring engineers and providing technical direction.

• Competent in organizing priorities, monitoring delivery, and facilitating team unblocking.

• Experience in direct communication with clients or external stakeholders.

• Comfortable discussing technical decisions, delivery, risks, and priorities with non-engineering stakeholders.

• Familiar with AI-assisted engineering tools such as Claude, Cursor, or similar.

• Strong sense of ownership and accountability.

• Fluent in professional English, both written and spoken.

• Must currently reside in Brazil.
