Engineering Manager – DevOps

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Lead, oversee, and nurture a globally distributed engineering team.

• Recruit, onboard, and cultivate engineers while ensuring quality, accountability, and psychological safety.

• Collaborate with product management, product design, and cross-functional engineering teams to synchronize technical direction and roadmaps.

• Provide guidance to engineers on system architecture, code quality, performance, security, and maintainability across both frontend and backend disciplines.

• Manage agile, remote, and asynchronous workflows while addressing blockers, backlogs, and delays in execution.

• Integrate AI capabilities and contemporary developer tools into daily operations.

• Conduct one-on-one meetings, offer feedback, and facilitate career advancement through coaching and skill enhancement.

• Monitor operational health and reliability, participating in availability and incident management rotations as required.

• Support GitLab’s Core DevOps team, responsible for repository capabilities, including Git command-line operations and web-based code exploration.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in managing engineering teams, offering architectural guidance and technical mentorship, and fostering team accountability.

• Background in enterprise software development, distributed systems, and software delivery pipelines.

• Experience in aligning stakeholders across product, design, engineering, and infrastructure.

• Demonstrated history of establishing efficient engineering processes and overseeing delivery execution.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in remote-first, asynchronous, and globally distributed settings.

• A strong commitment to fostering inclusive, psychologically safe team cultures.

• Familiarity with AI-assisted tools and modern software workflows.

• Capability to incorporate AI into daily tasks.

• Must be eligible to work in Canada or the United States according to the specified location eligibility.
