This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Oversee one or more distributed engineering teams engaged in the design, construction, and operation of modern cloud-native and AI-driven software solutions.
• Foster an inclusive and psychologically safe workplace that encourages engineers to develop, collaborate, and achieve results.
• Mentor engineers through constructive feedback, career growth, performance management, and guidance.
• Develop hiring pipelines, make recruitment decisions, and enhance the standard of engineering talent.
• Ensure consistent delivery by setting priorities, implementing planning strategies, and maintaining execution discipline.
• Eliminate barriers, manage conflicting priorities, and guarantee high-quality software delivery that aligns with business goals.
• Assess team performance using engineering and operational metrics to enhance speed, quality, and customer satisfaction.
• Collaborate with Product Management, Design, Architecture, Security, and Business stakeholders to synchronize roadmaps and priorities.
• Convert vague business challenges into actionable engineering strategies.
• Advocate for responsible AI adoption throughout the software development lifecycle.
• Ensure the effective utilization of AI-assisted development tools while upholding quality, security, and engineering judgment.
• Explore opportunities for AI-powered products and agentic systems with appropriate governance, observability, and operational safeguards.
• Establish operational practices that support secure, observable, resilient, scalable, and maintainable software solutions.
• Drive enhancements through metrics, post-mortems, incident analyses, SLOs, automation, and engineering health initiatives.
• Develop systems for planning, estimation, sprint management, release metrics, on-call duties, documentation, technical debt, and workflow.
• Streamline processes, reduce friction, and boost engineering productivity.
• Guide technical decision-making, assess architecture and design proposals, and promote sound engineering trade-offs.
• Collaborate with senior and staff engineers to shape technical direction while enabling independent decision-making.
• 7+ years of experience in building production software systems, including leadership of engineering teams.
• Proven experience managing software engineers and cultivating high-performing engineering teams.
• Significant experience delivering cloud-native, distributed software systems in a production environment.
• Experience in establishing engineering processes that enhance delivery reliability, software quality, and operational excellence.
• Strong grasp of modern software architecture, cloud infrastructure, APIs, distributed systems, and best practices in software engineering.
• Experience leveraging business and engineering metrics along with operational data to enhance team performance and customer satisfaction.
• Background in coaching engineers on performance, career advancement, feedback, and mentorship.
• Proficient in collaborating effectively with Product Management, Design, Architecture, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of iterative, metrics-driven software development and continuous delivery methodologies; DORA.
• Experience in adopting AI-assisted software development tools.
• Exceptional communication skills with the capability to influence, align stakeholders, and drive decisions across both technical and business teams.
• Sound judgment in balancing customer needs, technical health, organizational priorities, and long-term sustainability.
• Ideally, familiarity with AI platforms like OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Anthropic, or Databricks.
• Ideally, experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar technologies.
• Ideally, experience with C# (.NET), Python, Go, Java, TypeScript, or related technologies.
• Ideally, experience with Kubernetes and containerized application platforms.
• Ideally, experience with Terraform, CDK, or similar Infrastructure as Code solutions.
• Ideally, experience with observability platforms like OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Datadog, Prometheus, or similar tools.
• Ideally, experience in highly regulated sectors such as Financial Services, Insurance, or Healthcare.
