Engineering Manager – Dedicated Infrastructure

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Oversee GitLab's Dedicated Infrastructure team, merging hands-on technical leadership with team development.

• Collaborate with the Product Manager to establish priorities and deliver results with both quality and efficiency.

• Ensure a minimum of 99.9% availability for Dedicated infrastructure, enhance security, and automate operations to support a larger number of tenants at scale.

• Provide guidance to the team and offer constructive feedback while fostering a sense of shared responsibility for development and operations.

• Enhance platforms and tools to facilitate self-service production management.

• Recruit, onboard, and nurture team members.

• Set a strong example through proofs of concept and AI-assisted methods; streamline processes and automate repetitive tasks.

• Demonstrate incident management, guide resolution and escalation, and document and share best practices.

• Utilize data to prioritize tasks, quantify impact, manage risk and technical debt, and communicate technical trade-offs to stakeholders.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in building and owning large-scale distributed services, with the technical expertise to assess architecture and influence technical strategy.

• Familiarity with fleet management, Terraform, Amazon Web Services (AWS), and automated provisioning for 20 or more clusters.

• Experience managing services with 99.99% availability service-level objectives (SLOs) and knowledge of the operational practices required to maintain them.

• Proficient in utilizing AI tools to enhance team productivity, with insights drawn from both successes and challenges.

• Experience in building and leading accountable, high-performing teams, including addressing underperformance and making tough performance decisions when necessary.

• Capability to steer complex projects to completion independently of a dedicated Technical Program Manager.

• Experience in effectively leading distributed, remote teams.
